Representative Maurice Hinchey requested funding for at-risk youth education and training programs run by Dutchess Community College and several community organizations in Poughkeepsie, New York. Dear Chairman Obey and Ranking Member Lewis:

I am requesting funding for Dutchess Community College: At-risk Youth Education and
Training Programs in fiscal year 20 I o.

The entity to receive funding for this project is:


Dutchess Community College
53 Pendell Road
Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

The funds will be distributed by the Community College to a number of community


based organizations providing services to at-risk students within the City of
Poughkeepsie. The College will monitor expenditures to insure compliance with all
federal and Department of Justice requirements. These after-school or summer programs
will provide educational opportwlities for at-risk youth in the City of Poughkeepsie by
providing a safe and creative environment to enhance academic and skills development.
The programs will provide services such as tutoring, mentoring, counseling and
specialized training, and are targeted to promote leadership, academic, career and social
skills. Through their collective endeavors, the various programs will positively impact the
community and its youth by offering safe leaming environments and meaningful
opportwlities for self development and emichment, thereby reducing crime and
vandalism. They will receive employment preparation and opportunities to participate in
training and actual employment. In order to provide the necessary outreach and expanded
service delivery to targeted youth, these programs require financial support.
