2010 Grand Forks Rules and Regulations

Hockey Classic

1. Unless otherwise noted below, all games will be played according to USA Hockey Rules
and Regulations.
2. All teams must be registered (sanctioned) with their respective amateur hockey
associations and carry their own insurance.
3. Birth Certificates, proof of insurance, and USA/Hockey Canada approved roster must be
available prior to play. Travel Permits also required for teams from Canada.
4. Eighteen players may be rostered and dressed by each team for each game.
5. No more than 4 coaches will be allowed on the bench during the game.
6. All players must be equipped with matching numbered uniforms.
7. The team listed on the top bracket will be the Home team and wear light-colored jerseys.
8. Teams must be ready to go 15 minutes before game time.
9. Coaches must provide starting line-ups prior to the game.
10. Each game will consist of three 15-minute periods. The ice will be resurfaced every two
periods during the tournament, unless games are running behind schedule.
11. A six goal advantage in the third period will result in running time. If the margin goes
back to five, stop time will resume.
12. There will be no body checking or slap shots in the Mites and Squirt divisions.
13. Tie games: Two-minute rest period followed by five-minute sudden victory overtime. If
there is no winner, the teams will rest for two minutes followed by a five-minute, four on
four, sudden victory period, with a goalie. If no winner is declared, a two minute rest
period will be followed by a five minute three on three sudden victory period, with a
goalie. If no winner is declared, a two minute rest period will be followed by a three
person shootout. Each team picks three players to participate in the shootout. If no
winner is declared, there will be a one person shootout until the tie is broken. Dark
colored or away teams will go first in all shootouts and all players must be used at least
once before a player can participate in the shootout a second time. MEDAL GAMES ON
SUNDAY – The rules above apply, except that there will be no shoot out. Instead, three
on three play will continue until a winner is declared.
14. All referee decisions are final. No protests. Forward any concerns to the GF Hockey
Classic Rules Committee.
15. Penalties: Minor : 2:00
Major: 5:00
Misconduct: 10:00
Fighting: Player is disqualified for the remainder of the game plus the next
game, plus a 5-minute major.
16. Any spearing, butt-ending, or intent to injure will be a five-minute Major and a game or
tournament disqualification (at the discretion of the referee and/or tournament officials)
17. Any abusive language or conduct toward game officials by players, coaches, managers or
parents will result in a Minor penalty plus a game misconduct. If occurring after the
game, player, coach or manager will be disqualified for the next game.
18. USA Hockey helmet and face mask rules apply.
19. USA Hockey registered officials will be used.
20. All players must wear mouth guards.
