Chemise: Pima, lawn, or another lightweight 100% cotton.
Fabric suggestions:
Short Stays: For outer layer, silk, linen, or cotton. Forinterlining: coutil or cotton duck. Forlining: pima cotton or coutil (see instructions)
Chemisettes: Voile, organdy, lawn, silk organza, pima cotton.
Chemise: Thread, bias binding (you can make your own as per instructions), drawstring (1/8" cotton cord or ribbon).
Notions:
Short Stays: Thread, bias binding (you can make your own), drawstring, 1/4" steel boning* or hemp cord or quilting thread (see instructions).
Chemisettes: Thread, bias binding (see instructions), drawstring, ribbon ties or three 3/8" buttons (see instructions).
Notes:
I recommend what is called "whitebone" for the stays, which is steel with the ends dipped in plastic coating to prevent rust. This is available in
various lengths, and my recommended resource is www.granndgarb.com.
On all views, you will need to measure the drawstring for your personal size, so see instructions prior to purchasing drawstring or ribbon.
5/8" allowance on all seams except where noted.
