CODO into the School of Mechanical Engineering

(Effective beginning Fall 2015)


The Change of Degree Objective (CODO) process allows engineering students at the Purdue West
Lafayette campus who have completed all First-Year Engineering (FYE) requirements to apply for
admission to the School of Mechanical Engineering. Students outside the College of Engineering must
first CODO into First Year Engineering and complete those program requirements before admission into
ME. CODOs are accepted based on enrollment capacity and meeting the minimum academic
qualifications outlined below. As such, there are no guarantees of admission. CODO applications will be
processed at the end of the every Fall and Spring semester.

Application Deadline
CODO application must be submitted before the deadline to be considered. For CODO consideration at
the conclusion of the Fall 2015 term, applications will be accepted in the ME Undergraduate Office (room
ME 2008) from the beginning of Dead Week through the end of the Final Exam Week every Fall and Spring
semester. Late applications will not be accepted. The student should not submit an application for CODO
if they know they will not meet the minimum qualifications below. Students are encouraged to work
closely with their academic advisor in their current engineering professional school to make sure that they
are eligible to CODO into Mechanical Engineering.

Applications will be evaluated the week that final grades post (which is the week after the Final Exam
week) each Fall and Spring semester and applicants will be contacted by a ME advisor via their Purdue
email account as to the status of their application.

CODO Qualifications
To be eligible for a CODO into the School of Mechanical Engineering, a student must have:

1) successfully completed the FYE program requirements.


2) taken a minimum of 12 credit hours of professional engineering coursework (beyond the First-
Year Engineering Program) completed for a letter grade on the Purdue West Lafayette campus.
3) registered for a minimum of 15 credit hours in the CODOing semester to be considered.
4) earned a minimum 3.4 GPA in all completed ME core courses (or engineering professional school
course equivalencies)* and
5) submitted their signed CODO papers between the beginning of Dead Week and the end of the
Final Exam Week in Fall or Spring to the ME Undergraduate Office (ME 2008)

Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission into Mechanical Engineering (due to potential
space and enrollment constraints), but is essential for consideration. Additionally, a student will NOT be
accepted for CODO if he or she is on academic probation.
