Strengths of the lesson
Reflecting on my microteach I believe there were many positive aspects that contributed to a good
presentation. I think for the grade level a PowerPoint presentation worked well as it gave the students something
to look at which deterred fidgeting and chatting. A PowerPoint also allowed me to stay on track within the time
allotted. I began my presentation with a recap of the previous class and many of my peers said they enjoyed this
as it made it feel like a real lesson and encouraged retrieval of previous knowledge right from the start. I also
offered the students examples of a limerick poem after explaining the basic poetic conventions and a lot of the
feedback I was given showed that the class enjoyed the examples because they were both humorous and
informative. To reinforce the informative taught I had the class complete their own poem on a worksheet and I
found this was very effective as the class had fun completing it, it kept me on track for time, and it allowed me to
gain valuable assessment.
Revisions that could be considered
If I were able to redo my microteach there are a few aspects I would change to make it even better. One
of my peers gave the feedback that I should have less information on the slides and read off of them less. Although
I believed I only put relevant information on the slides, I did wonder if it was a bit too much for the grade level.
Next time I would simplify the information even more and explain the additional information myself. Another peer
commented that I should use different techniques to get answers from the students and I really appreciated this
feedback! I could have reworded questions or offered examples before completely giving the answer away and
this is something I will be researching my last few days of practicum. Next time I would also find more time to
rehearse to make sure I can cover everything within the allotted time while also having a question period.
Overall evaluation of the lesson and next steps
Overall I thought my presentation went very well; the class was engaged the entire time and the feedback
I received was very positive. I was able to incorporate real life examples that were entertaining and informative to
contribute to a more positive learning experience. The worksheet given reinforced the core information presented
while offering a learning experience that was simultaneously competitive and collaborative. The students were
incorporated throughout the lesson via questions and an activity which I believe is essential to the younger age
group so they do not grow uninterested. I would like to teach a lesson without a PowerPoint and see how if it goes
differently. My next steps include watching real life examples of approaching questions in various ways to gain

answers from the students and finding how much information presented is adequate for each grade level. I would
have liked a question period at the end and this is definitely something I will incorporate into my future lessons.
