History of Starbucks:

To say Starbucks purchases and roasts high-quality whole bean coffees is very true. That’s the
essence of what we do – but it hardly tells the whole story.

Our Heritage
Every day, we go to work hoping to do two things: share great coffee with our friends and help
make the world a little better. It was true when the first Starbucks opened in 1971, and it’s just as
true today.

Back then, the company was a single store in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. From just a
narrow storefront, Starbucks offered some of the world’s finest fresh-roasted whole bean coffees.
The name, inspired by Moby Dick, evoked the romance of the high seas and the seafaring
tradition of the early coffee traders.
In 1981, Howard Schultz (Starbucks chairman and chief executive officer) had first walked into
a Starbucks store. From his first cup of Sumatra, Howard was drawn into Starbucks and joined a
year later.

In 1983, Howard traveled to Italy and became captivated with Italian coffee bars and the
romance of the coffee experience. He had a vision to bring the Italian coffeehouse tradition back
to the United States. A place for conversation and a sense of community. A third place between
work and home. He left Starbucks for a short period of time to start his own Il Giornale
coffeehouses and returned in August 1987 to purchase Starbucks with the help of local investors.
From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only
celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection.

Our mission to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one
neighborhood at a time.

Expect More Than Coffee

We’re not just passionate purveyors of coffee, but everything else that goes with a full and
rewarding coffeehouse experience. We also offer a selection of premium teas, fine pastries and
other delectable treats to please the taste buds. And the music you hear in store is chosen for its
artistry and appeal.

It’s not unusual to see people coming to Starbucks to chat, meet up or even work. We’re a
neighborhood gathering place, a part of the daily routine – and we couldn’t be happier about it.
Get to know us and you’ll see: we are so much more than what we brew.

We make sure everything we do is through the lens of humanity – from our commitment to the
highest quality coffee in the world, to the way we engage with our customers and communities to
do business responsibly.
History of Apple: The story of Steve Jobs and
the company he founded

In this feature we tell the story of Apple. We start with the early days, the tale of how Apple was
founded, moving on through the Apple I, to the Apple II, the launch of the Macintosh and the
revolution in the DTP industry... To the tech-industry behemoth that we know and love today.

So sit back as we take a stroll down memory lane. Why not brush up on what really happened
before you go and watch the Steve Jobs movie, with its interesting interpretations of
several important events in the company's history?

On 1 April 1976 Apple was founded, making the company 41 years old as of the 1 April 2017 -
here's a historical breakdown of the company.

The history of Apple

Our Apple history feature includes information about The foundation of Apple and the years that
followed, we look at How Jobs met Woz and Why Apple was named Apple. The Apple I and
The debut of the Apple II. Apple's visit to Xerox, and the one-button mouse. The story of The
Lisa versus the Macintosh. Apple's '1984' advert, directed by Ridley Scott. The Macintosh and
the DTP revolution.
We go on to examine what happened between Jobs and Sculley, leading to Jobs departure from
Apple, and what happened during The wilderness years: when Steve Jobs wasn't at Apple,
including Apple's decline and IBM and Microsoft's rise and how Apple teamed up with IBM and
Motorola and eventually Microsoft. And finally, The return of Jobs to Apple.

The foundation of Apple

The history of everyone's favourite start-up is a tech fairytale of one garage, three friends and
very humble beginnings. But we're getting ahead of ourselves…

The two Steves - Jobs and Wozniak - may have been Apple's most visible founders, but were it
not for their friend Ronald Wayne there might be no iPhone, iPad or iMac today. Jobs convinced
him to take 10% of the company stock and act as an arbiter should he and Woz come to blows,
but Wayne backed out 12 days later, selling for just $500 a holding that would have been worth
$72bn 40 years later.

History of Microsoft

Microsoft Co-founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Microsoft

Who is Microsoft?
Microsoft is an American corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington. Microsoft is a
technology company that supports the invention of, manufactures and licenses goods and
services related to computing.

Who Started Microsoft?

Childhood friends, Paul Allen and Bill Gates are the co-founders of Microsoft. The pair were
total computer geeks in an age when any access to computers was hard to come by.

Allen and Gates skipped classes to live and breathe in their school's computer room. Eventually,
they hacked the school's computer and were caught.
But instead of expulsion, the duo was offered unlimited computer time in exchange for helping
to improve the computer's performance. Bill Gates and Paul Allen even ran their own small
company called Traf-O-Data and sold a computer to the city of Seattle for counting city traffic.

Bill Gates, Harvard DropOut:

In 1973, Bill Gates left Seattle to attend Harvard University as a pre-law student. However,
Gate's first love never left him as he spent most of his time in Harvard's computer center where
he kept improving his programming skills. Soon Paul Allen moved to Boston as well, pressuring
Gates to quit Harvard so that the team could work full-time together on their projects. Bill Gates
was uncertain of what to do, however, fate stepped in.

The Birth of Microsoft:

In January 1975, Paul Allen read an article about the Altair 8800 microcomputer in Popular
Electronics magazine.

He showed the article to Bill. Bill Gates called MITS, the makers of the Altair, and offered his
and Paul Allen's services to write a version of the new BASIC programming language for the
Altair.

In eight weeks, Allen and Gates were able to demonstrate their program to MITS, who agreed to
distribute and market the product under the name of Altair BASIC.

The Altair deal inspired Gates and Allen to form their own software company. Microsoft was
started on April 4, 1975, with Bill Gates as the first CEO.

Where Did The Name

Microsoft Come From?
On July 29, 1975, Bill Gates used the
name "Micro-soft" in a letter to Paul
Allen to refer to their partnership. The
name was registered with the secretary
of state of New Mexico on November
26, 1976.

In August 1977, the company opened

their first international office in Japan,
called ASCII Microsoft.
In 1981, the company incorporated in the state of Washington and became Microsoft Inc. Bill
Gates was the President of the Company and the Chairman of the Board, and Paul Allen was the
Executive VP.
