C How to Find and Activate

Business Functions

This book is illustrated with screenshots from test and demo systems on SAP
enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0. To know whether you can use the fea-
tures described, it’s important to know which release you’re using and whether
your organization has implemented the relevant business function (assuming it’s
available in that release).

C.1 Release Levels

To find out what release you’re on, select System • Status. This will take you to
the System: Status popup shown in Figure C.1.

The entry in the Component Version field tells us that this system is on SAP ECC
6.0, but not what enhancement package we’re on. To see the enhancement package,
click on the icon under Component Version and scroll to the entry for the software
component SAP_APPL, shown in Figure C.2. Here you can see that SAP_APPL is
on Release 605, which tells us that this is equivalent to SAP enhancement package
5 for SAP ERP 6.0.

Now that you know what release you’re using, you can check whether certain
functions have been activated.

C.2 Enterprise Extensions and Business Functions

The enterprise extensions and business functions are activated using Transaction
SFW5. Normally end users don’t have access to this transaction, so you’ll have to
talk to an administrator about activating the business function you need. Since
the business function controls what menus are visible, what functions are active
within a transaction, and what fields are shown, if the screen you see looks different
from the one in this book, there’s a chance that you have not activated a business
function (or that other business functions are active that were not switched on in
our example).

Figure C.3 shows the warning message when you call Transaction SFW5.

Figure C.3 Accessing the Switch Framework

The switch framework was used for the first time in Release 4.7. You’ll find the
enterprise extensions in the first folder. The business functions were used for the
first time in the context of enhancement packages for SAP ERP 6.0. If you’re using
an industry-specific system, you’ll find a third folder for industry enhancements
(not active in our demo system).

Figure C.4 shows all the enterprise extensions. You’ll need to activate the financials
extensions (EA_FIN) to use the following functions described in this book.

E Alternative Valuation Run (Chapter 7, Section 7.3.3)

E Revaluation of Consumption (Chapter 7, Section 7.3.2)
E Distribution of Usage Variances (Chapter 6, Section 6.2)
E Manually Change Actual Cost Component Split (Chapter 7, Section 7.3.2)

E Valuated Quantity Structure (Chapter 2, Figure 2.21 and Chapter 6, Figure

6.23)
E Closing Cockpit (Chapter 12)

Financials Extensions EA-FIN

Before activating the financials extensions, make sure that you read the documentation
carefully and talk with the rest of your Financials team, since EA_FIN also activates func-
tions in Asset Accounting and Financial Accounting.

Figure C.4 Enterprise Extensions

Now open up the Enterprise Business Functions folder. Figure C.5 shows some
of the business functions in an enhancement package 5 system. Note that they’re
much smaller than the enterprise extensions, where EA_FIN activates multiple
functions in SAP ERP Financials. If multiple enhancements have been made to a
business function over the course of several enhancement packages you’ll see two
business functions with similar names, so FIN_ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE contains the
enhancements to the Closing Cockpit in enhancement package 3, and FIN_ACC_
LOCAL_CLOSE_2 contains the enhancements to the Closing Cockpit introduced in
enhancement package 5 (see Chapter 12). Activating FIN_ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE_2
will automatically activate FIN_ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE.

C.3 Business Function Details

Transaction SFW5 contains links to much that will support your decision to activate
a business function, including a release note, the relevant documentation, and a
link to a test catalog that will guide you through how to test the new function.

Figure C.6 shows the test catalog for business function FIN_CO_COGM (discussed
throughout Chapter 7). Clicking on the icons will take you into a description of
how to test in your own system.
