METHODOLOGY

The method of research used in the study is descriptive method. The


researchers gathered data from a local resource for the location of Acid Mine
Drainages in the Philippines, and related literature regarding wastewater influent
characteristics of similar AMD. Moreover, data regarding wastewater effluent
characteristics were collected from the recent DENR Administrative Order on Water
Quality Guidelines and General Effluent Standards which will serve as a basis in
determining the suitable processes for the proposed wastewater treatment plant.

A. Data Gathering

Data on wastewater influent characteristics from ADM industry were gathered


from related literature about ADM from the internet. Additionally, the effluent standards
of wastewater were collected in accordance to DAO 2016-08 (Water Quality
Guidelines and General Effluent Standards of 2016).

B. Analysis of Different Wastewater Treatment Process

Different processes of wastewater treatment from Preliminary Treatment,


Primary Treatment, and Secondary Treatment were analyzed and compared.
Moreover, the reduction efficiencies in terms of BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand),
COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), TSS (Total Suspended Solids), iron, and
manganese were gathered.

C. Proposed Wastewater Treatment Process

After a comparative analysis of different wastewater treatment processes in


terms of its function and reduction efficiencies, a wastewater treatment method was
proposed by the researchers.

D. Equipment Design

The equipment involved in the proposed wastewater treatment facility were


properly selected and designed to come up with operational and technical
specifications.

E. Data Analysis

The proposed wastewater treatment facility was analyzed based on the design
specifications and the reduction efficiencies of every equipment. The wastewater
effluent characteristics from the proposed wastewater treatment facility was also
evaluated in accordance to the general effluent standards of DAO 2016- 08.
