PREREQUISITES FOR STRING GROUPS & ORCHESTRAL STRINGS

STRING SPINNERS

 For students in Preparatory to Year 4


 For students who have been learning for one semester or more and are undertaking
regular tuition on their chosen instrument
 Participation in String Spinners is compulsory for students in Preparatory to Year 3
 For students in Year 4 who have achieved AMEB Preliminary standard or above (or
equivalent), participation in String Spinners is optional if they are members of Muirhead
Strings

MUIRHEAD STRINGS

 For students in Years 2-6* (*by invitation for Year 2’s & 3’s)
 For students who have achieved AMEB Preliminary standard or above (or equivalent)
and are undertaking regular tuition on their chosen instrument

ST CECILIA’S STRING ORCHESTRA

 For students in Years 6* to 12**


 For students in Years 10 to 12 who are NOT members of Loreto Symphony Orchestra
 For students who have achieved AMEB Preliminary standard or above (or equivalent)
and are undertaking regular tuition on their chosen instrument

*By invitation for Year 6’s


**Students in Year 9 who are members of Loreto Symphony Orchestra AND Mandeville

String Orchestra will NOT be regular members of St Cecilia’s String Orchestra. However,
they may be invited to perform in this ensemble for performance events.

LORETO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

 For students in Years 7 to 12


 Minimum standard of Grade 5 AMEB (or equivalent) for violins; Grade 3 AMEB (or
equivalent) for violas; Grade 4 (or equivalent) for cellos and Grade 3 (or equivalent)
for double basses
 Students in Year 12 do not have to have lessons, as long as they have had lessons
up ul the end of Year 11. Year 12 students not having regular lessons will be required
to have two half hour lessons per term to go through their orchestral parts
 Students wishing to participate in Loreto Symphony Orchestra will be required to
audition, at the discretion of the Ensemble Director
MANDEVILLE STRING ORCHESTRA

 For girls in Years 7 to 12


 It is compulsory for girls in Mandeville String Orchestra to be members of Loreto
Symphony Orchestra.
 Minimum standard of Grade 6 AMEB (or equivalent) for violins; Grade 4 AMEB (or
equivalent) for violas; Grade 5 (or equivalent) for cellos and Grade 4 (or equivalent)
for double basses
 Students wishing to participate in Mandeville String Orchestra will be required to
audition, at the discretion of the Ensemble Director
 Due to the size of the ensemble, places maybe limited
