RAM and ROM
There is one major difference between a ROM (read-only memory) and a RAM
(random-access memory) chip: ROM can hold data without power and RAM cannot.
Essentially, ROM is meant for permanent storage, and RAM is for temporary storage.
RAM (pronounced ram) is an acronym for random access memory, a type of computer
memory that can be accessed randomly; that is, and any byte of memory can be accessed
without touching the preceding bytes. RAM is found in servers, PCs, tablets,
smartphones and other devices, such as printers.
ROM stands for Read Only Memory. The memory from which we can only read but
cannot write on it. This type of memory is non-volatile. The information is stored
permanently in such memories during manufacture. A ROM stores such instructions
that are required to start a computer.
