When opening model or layout tabs in AutoCAD, the program may hang or freeze and become unresponsive. To fix this, update AutoCAD and graphics drivers, set WHIPTHREAD to 3 and LAYOUTREGENCTL to 2 in the command line, repair corrupted drawings, disable add-ons, or disable sleep mode in Windows settings.

Issue:

When opening model tab or switching between model and/or layout tabs in AutoCAD, the program
hangs or freezes and does not recover. In some instances it may also become unresponsive.

Solution:

Do one or more of the following:

• Install the latest updates for AutoCAD (see Where to get Product Updates, Add-ons, and
Enhancements).

• On the command line in AutoCAD, type WHIPTHREAD and set the value to 3.

• On the command line in AutoCAD, type LAYOUTREGENCTL and set the value to 2.

• Update the graphics driver (see How to update your system to the latest certified video driver).

• Repair the drawing file (see How to repair corrupt AutoCAD files).

o Insert the drawing into a new file.

o Resave to DXF format, open the DXF, and then save back to DWG.

• Disable add-ons or plug-ins to test if they are interfering with how AutoCAD functions.

• Disable "Sleep mode" in the Windows "Power & Sleep" settings, if the issue mainly occurs after
the computer comes back from "Sleep mode"
