Welcome to the MIT Venture Mentoring Service Demo Day
About VMS Demo Day: The emerging ventures presenting represent a broad range of
technologies and industries. The ventures are now ready to begin conversations seeking
the resources needed to accelerate their progress. They range from early seed to
institutional rounds. You will be introduced to a great range of exciting technologies,
interesting business ideas and amazing new entrepreneurs.
How Demo Day will work: After brief opening remarks, the ventures will deliver a short,
focused 5-minute presentation, one after another. There will be 20 ventures presenting in
two sessions with a brief 10-minute break in between. No questions will be accepted during
these sessions.
After all the ventures in both sessions have given their presentations, you can join them in
the exhibit area for hands on demonstrations and conversations. Many of our VMS mentors
will also be in attendance for you to meet.
About VMS: In today's competitive business environment, the speed of technological
change, accelerated product cycles, global competition and sophisticated financing
strategies demand resources and experience beyond the reach of the typical startup.
Leveraging a large pool of highly screened and talented mentors, MIT entrepreneurs receive
practical hands-on coaching and mentoring to help learn how to advance their ideas. We
don’t screen to pick winners; rather, VMS’s mission is to use any plausible idea as the focus
for practical education on the venture creation process. MIT VMS is a free and confidential
service for MIT faculty, staff, students and alums.
Special thanks to our MIT VMS Demo Day sponsors:

What is MIT VMS?
The MIT Venture Mentoring Service is a free and confidential service exclusively for the MIT
community in the greater Boston area. VMS harnesses the knowledge and experience of
volunteer experienced business leaders to help prospective entrepreneurs develop the business
skills needed to bring their ideas and inventions to market. Reporting to the Provost, VMS
complements and cooperates with the many MIT organizations and programs promoting
innovation and entrepreneurship.
Who is it for?
VMS is for MIT students, alums, faculty and staff who have ideas they would like to see placed
into practice. Applicants often come to VMS at very early stages in their idea process—before
there is a business plan, a strategy and revenue model, a team, or any funding. VMS assists
individuals and groups at any stage, starting from concept development and continuing through
team formation, incorporation and initial operations and beyond.
How does it work?
VMS participants receive practical hands-on advice from teams of 2-5 mentors tailored to each
mentee’s challenges, changing as their needs change. Meeting frequency and length of
participation are up to the mentee. VMS mentoring services are educational; all business
decisions remain under the full control of the participating entrepreneur. VMS mentors are
here to help; they do not do the work. They work with the entrepreneur for as long as needed.
Mentees are assured impartial and unbiased advice by a code of ethics to which all mentors
must adhere.
About VMS Mentors
Mentoring is delivered by volunteers selected for their demonstrated expertise in forming and
running businesses, and for their skills as advisors. These mentors bring a wealth of
entrepreneurial experience and contacts across a broad range of industries and markets.
