Persuasive Speech Essentials

A persuasive speech aims to convince the audience to accept the speaker's point of view. It uses appeals such as ethos (credibility), pathos (emotion), and logos (logic and evidence). There are three main types of claims in persuasive speeches - claims of fact which establish definitions or make inferences, claims of value which make moral judgments, and claims of policy which recommend actions. Evidence comes in different types to back up these claims, such as factual data, expert opinions, statistics, stories, or visual aids. The goal is to present a clear claim, supporting points, and evidence to build a logical and compelling argument.
