A SYSTEM STUDY ON GENTRI’S BEST: GENERAL TRIAS DAIRY

INTRODUCTION

In today’s competitive global marketplace, dairy processing occurs world-

wide. However the structure of the industry varies from country to country. Millions

of farmers worldwide tend to approximately 270 million dairy cows to produce milk.

Milk production impacts the environment in various ways, and the scale of these

impacts depends on the practices of the dairy farmers and feed growers (WWF, 2009).

In less developed countries, milk is generally sold directly to the public, but in

major milk producing countries most milk is sold on a wholesale basis. In Ireland and

Australia, for example, many of the large-scale processors are owned by the farmers

as co-operatives, while in the United States individual contracts are agreed between

farmers and processors (COWI, 2000).

However, there are some problems in Milk Industry were the modern ages

suffering. According in study of Marchand et al (2012), some of the problems relating

to milk industry affects the whole productions and the opportunities. Marchand

observed that the bacteria in milk have the ability to adhere and aggregate on stainless

steel surfaces, resulting in biofilm formation in milk storage tanks and milk process
lines. This may affect the quality standards and safety control of processing the milk.

It may cause severe microbial contamination of the processed dairy products.

Gentri’s Best a flagship project of One Town One Product of city of general

Trias. Gentri’s Best formerly known as Gentri Dairy, is one of the brain of General

Trias Dairy Raisers Multipurpose Cooperative. Formed and registered on August 10,

2005, with a purpose to promote dairying and dairy enterprise. Gentri’s Best is a local

producer of kasilyo, the native kesong puti (white cheese). Their other products

include fresh milk, yoghurt, ice cream and pastillas de leche. Their products are sold

in their own store in General Trias City, Cavite and distributed through Mr. Moo’s

dairy stores and much more.

In relation to the study, the word system was coined from Greek word

systema, the meaning of which the interactive collection of various process of

achieving the common goals.Study is a process to understanding a particular field that

carried out for improvement and development of the entire system, so that, if the

system has any default part that can be removed, modified or improved (Ratha, 2003).

However, several problems may be considered to the production of Gentri’s

Best and other products they produce that may increase the opportunity losses of the

mentioned firm. The mentioned firm’s quarter income increased at the end of 3rd

quarter of the season and decreased afterwards due the demands and the stocking

capability of raw milks. Using different Industrial Engineering tools (IE tools), the

root causes will be able to determine. Using Cause–and–Effect, Why-Why analysis,

and Pareto, this will be the guide for the undetermined problems to locate. This study

will provide a possible solution and recommendation to be implemented to improve

the production and eliminate the errors.

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of the study is to analyse occurring problems that may be

consider to the production on Gentri’s Best: GTDRMC and other products they

produce that may increase the opportunity losses of the mentioned firm.

Specifically, this study aims to determine the following:

1. What are the existing processes of Gentri’s Best: GTDRMC?

2. What are the several problems encounter?

3. What are the different IE or QC tools to be use? and

4. How to implement and evaluate the possible solution(s)?

Objectives of the Study

Generally, the study aims to analyse the system to order to identify its goal

and purposes and create a systems and procedures that will achieve them in an

efficient way.

Specifically, the study aims to:

1. be able to determine the existing process of Gentri’s Best;

2. be able to determine the several problems encounter;

3. be able to apply the Industrial Engineering tools;

4. be able to provide a recommendation and solutions; and

5. be able to implement and evaluate the possible solution(s).

Scope and Limitation

This system study will have conducted in order to identify the problems

encountered by the firm, Gentri’s Best: GTDRMC. The study is concern only at the

production of carabao’s milk and its sub-products relating to the system of

productions.
Time and Place of the Study

This study will be conducted during academic year of 2019-2020 at Brgy.

Santiago, General Trias City, Cavite.

Significance of the Study

This study will be significant to the community of consumers or customer,

Gentri’s Best: GTDRMC and Students and Future researchers.

The result of the study will benefit the community of consumer or customer

of Gentri’s Best: GTDRMC and also beneficial for GenTri’s best: GTDRMC. The

study will result an improved system that gives an efficient process and reduce the

opportunity losses of the firm.

This will be significant especially for the Students and Researchers, this

study may use as their basis for further improvement of the mentioned firm.

Definition of Terms

For in depth understanding of the study, the following terms are hereby

defined:

GTDRMC. It refers to General Trias Dairy Raisers Multipurpose Cooperative

Kasilyoor Kesong puti. Soft white cheese similar to cottage cheese, made from

carabao’s milk, salt and Rennet or white vinegar.

Pastillas de leche.It refers to Pastiyema; it is a milk-based sweetened candy

confectionery with origins in the town of San Miguel in Bulacan.

QC Tools. It refers to Quality Control Tools

IE Tools. It refers to Industrial Engineering Tools

Conceptual Framework

The figure below shows the conceptual framework of the study. The

researchers used Input – Process – Output (IPO) Model which is widely used

approach in systems analysis and engineering for describing the structure of an

information processing program or other process (“IPO model”, 2018).
