Electricity Lab: Parallel Circuits

1) The document describes experiments on parallel circuits using light pens as loads. It provides objectives, materials, procedures, and observations for constructing parallel circuits with two loads where: 2) The first load is shorted, one load is open, and the first load is open. Voltages, currents, and resistances are measured and compared between the circuits. 3) Key findings are that a shorted load reduces total resistance and current to the other load, while an open load prevents current from flowing through that branch of the circuit.

Application of Parallel Circuit

Parallel Circuit using a LIGHT PEN

Ohms Law is the relationship between power (P), voltage (V), current (I) and resistance (R). One ohm is the resistance value through
which one volt will maintain a current of one ampere.

Current (I) – measured in amperes, it flows on a wire or conductor.

Voltage (V) – measured in volts, the difference in electrical potential between two points in a circuit.
Resistance (R) – measured in ohms, used to control voltage and current levels.
Power (P) – measured in wattage/watts, amount of current times the voltage level at a given point.

Ohms Law: V = I x R

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the experiment, the students be able to:
 Constructed a parallel circuit in a breadboard
 Measure the actual value of a given load
 Know if the circuit is short circuit or not shorted
