11th All India Peoples’ Technology Congress
4th - 5th February 2017, Kolkata
Theme: LOW CARBON TECHNOLOGIES – PROPAGATION AND
ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT
The release of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) into our atmosphere is becoming one of the major
environmental issues of the 21st century. The cumulative accumulation of greenhouse gases (GHGs)
historically since industrial revolution has resulted in the current problem of global warming. This is
further compounded by the tepid and inadequate response of the developed countries even after the
adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and delineation
of obligations and responsibilities. India, even though not a part of the problem, has been an active
and constructive participant in the search for solutions. With the responsibility of ensuring a reasonable
HDI for the country and the economic progress of its vast population, India has attempted to follow a
path 'cleaner' than the one followed by many countries. India has a definite plan of action for clean
energy, energy efficiency in various sectors of industries, steps to achieve lower emission intensity in
the automobile and transport sector, a major thrust to non-fossil based electricity generation and a
building sector based on energy conservation.
Keeping in view its development agenda, particularly the eradication of poverty coupled with its
commitment to following the low carbon path to progress India has to develop and use indigenous
technologies under its “Make-in-India” programme which are capable for reduction of GHG emission
and will make a “Swachh Bharat” in true sense. But the goal cannot be achieved unless the
technologies get peoples’ acceptance. For wider acceptance of common people, sensitization through
regular communication about the technologies and providing those at their doorsteps in an affordable
way through entrepreneurship development is the crucial factors for adaptation of Low - Carbon
Technologies.
About FOSET
FOSET is a 30 year old national level voluntary organisation of professionals engaged in social
development work through application of cost-effective technologies. It enjoys patronage of the
Science & Society Division of Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and also the Dept. of
Science & Technology, Govt. of West Bengal. It has membership strength of 2500 scientists and
engineers and the team of experts, works in tandem with Govt. Departments, Local Self Governments,
Non-Govt. Organisations, Educational Institutes and R&D Laboratories to offer their altruistic service
for development of the society. FOSET, through its relentless effort since 1987, has gained sufficient
expertise in the field of Cost Effective Construction Technology, Food Processing, Renewable Energy,
Artisanal Technology, Biotechnology, and Environment and is now in a position to transfer several
technologies to field level. We organise All India Peoples Technology Congress (AIPTC) in every
alternate year where scientists, technologists and science workers from all over India take part in a
two-day workshop at Science City, Kolkata to exchange their idea / transferable technologies with
other delegates.
