Create electric light that shows symbol in plan view

Need to edit family

Select the thing to edit the light


Then edit family
Change to floor plan ref level

Then make sure its light fittings cat


(top left family cat}

Need to hide some of it in plan view


Add these for tag and legends

Make one for each light type maybe

Trying to hide the flurescent light fitting on plan
To have traditional symbols (Revit calls them "annotation symbols") on plans, you have to create a 2D symbol of the desired
shape as a generic annotation, then insert that family into your 3D object family and place an instance of it at the family
origin. Then select all of the 3D objects and set their visibility to "Fine" only. Select the annotation symbol and set its visibility to
"Coarse" and "Medium" only. If you need multiple symbols within a single family, you'll need to create separate family types for
each symbol and drive their visibility via family parameters as Fabio described above.

File/new/family/annotations/
Choose the generic annotation

Save as a new family


Ie Lighting Fixture symbol tag

Add a lable
Dupilicate the 3mm to 2mm as right
Chose new

Didn’t work Try this


Modify to centre the text
Create detail line circle- don’t change line types

Save load and close

Open new family


Sconce light and change to floor plan view
Open new family
The E light fitting symbol tag
And load into project

(the sconce light)

Tab to select the annotation symbol


Change visibility to coarse and medium only
Select all the 3d elements (use select all crossing and then filter out
the annotation

Set all visibility to Fine only

Had to select one at a time

(not sure about switch off in plan view)


Easier in 3d view

Save as a new family

Load into project and close


Go to the floor (ceiling) plan where you want light

Choose the one you just created
Ie sconce with E symbol
