PSYCHOSOCIAL ASSESSMENT Spencer 2

Presenting Problem

Dadriene is a 22 year old African American heterosexual male. Dadriene began smoking
marijuwana 4 years ago, but recently he began smoking an extensive amount even while
knowing the long term health effects of the drug. He wants to stop using marijuwana completely,
however, he is experiencing low motivation in doing so because of stress from school, work, and
extracurricular activities, such as writing and publishing his own novels and plays.

Personal Status

Dadriene is the oldest of all 15 plus siblings although he only lived with only two, his
younger brother Donte and sister Toriene. He was born and raised in a very strict and religious
household in the rural area of Hamlet, North Carolina. Although Dadriene was raised without a
father figure, he still believes in marriage and relationships; even though he remains single at the
moment. In 2015, Dadriene moved to Pembroke, NC at 18 years old where he started his first
year of college. Upon arrival Dadriene began to meet new peers with different morals and values
than himself and that is when serious peer pressure began.

Employment and Educational Background

Dadriene received his first job at age 18 where he worked as a dining hall associate at his
University-The University of North Carolina at Pembroke- while also earning extra money as a
literature and writing tutor in his spare time. Also, Dadriene worked as a Borista this past year at
his local StarBucks. However, at the moment, Dadriene remains unemployed due to his almost
fatal car accident earlier this year, leaving him with no transportation to work.
Dadriene graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 2015 with a diploma in
general educational and will be graduating from college in May of 2020 with a bachelor's degree
in Foriegn Language.

General Description and Health Background

Dadriene is a 5’7 male of African American decent. His eyes are brown and he has black,
curly hair. He also has a fairly slim physique. Dadreine does not suffer from any recent physical
health conditions, although when he was an infant he had a hernia and underwent a surgical
procedure to have it removed. As for Dadriene’s psychological health, he did experience a deep
depression for several months in 2016. This year he expressed how he’s made progress from
three years ago and even goes on to credit marijuwana for helping him through those tough
times.

Social Activities and Spiritual Involvement

Dadriene does not attend church anymore due to hypocrisy and biases within those
settings. He states that the members act in an intolerable manner and he no longer enjoys being
involved in church activities however, he does have a strong spiritual relationship with the

Hebrew God. Dadriene enjoys being a film director, writing and artist. He also exclaims how
even though he enjoys doing these extracurricular activities its consumes most of his free time
and can sometimes add to his stress.

Legal Concerns and Environmental factors

Dadriene would like to stop his addiction of marijuwana because he believes that he is
becoming dependent upon it. Also, since he is aware that the drug is illegal, he fears that if he
does not get his addiction under control he could eventually earn jail time if getting caught or
expulsion from school. Since Dadriene lives in a rural area with not many activities or stress
relievers, smoking marijuwana is used to prevent boredom by Dadriene. Also a lot of his friends
participate in smoking as well so he feels like it is more acceptable.

Client Strengths

Dadriene enjoys art and wants to find time to start drawing again. He believes that in
doing this it will allow him to have a more positive outlet for his aggression and stress. Dadriene
is seeking help because he knows that he can stop using marijuwana even if it is an outlet for him
at the moment. He is desperate to not become addicted to drugs and is interested in finding more
ways to manage his stress other than using illicit drugs.
