John Mac
How to become
a Web Designer
-without coding skills
Hello,
I’m John Mac.
I find it cool that you’re looking to teach yourself something new. A
craft that can become a new creative career for you. And without
societies approval. (fact) Its a cool way of self-educating yourself from
an electronic device and will only take 1 hour to read.
So in this easy to follow eBook, combined with the complimentary
e-mails that I will be sending you each day, I will teach you about
freedom. (Amen sister!)
That’s right. I’m going to show you how you can leave your house
every morning with your head held high, breathing in that fresh air,
and go to your favorite café in town doing work on your laptop that will
generate your salary. Without a boss.
You don’t drink coffee or enjoy cramped cafés with too many
earthlings around?
I get that. Go for takeaway tea and pretend you’re a guest at a hotel
lobby like I have done a few times. Setting the stage and location for
your freelance lifestyle is very important.
Early on this week, I will also teach you how to get set up to receive
payments to your bank account. We’ll be using top quality online
services that won’t cost you anything. And I’ll even suggest a couple of
debit payment cards that you can acquire to be able to spend your
money while out in the wild.
The purpose of this eBook is to show you the steps to take to get your first
website project in one week.
Which will get the snowball rolling. It strange, but it’s like, as soon as
you have completed one job. The next one pops up. And now you’re
getting more experienced.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
In this easy to follow PDF mini eBook, I will teach you how to get
started as a Web Designer and make a new flow of income. Without any
coding skills and specialized technical knowledge.
If you follow the steps I have set up in this training, you will be able to
make a good income exactly the way I do today. Even passive income.
Let me give you an example:
By working online, there are many ways to create small and big income
streams. I have made sure to work smart so that one of my income
streams pays me about $850 every month.
And by counting the number of hours I put in to receive that payment, I
would say it’s worth it. And I’d say it’s truly passive income.
I work 0 hours for it!
That’s a fact. As a Web Designer, by also working as a Shopify Partner
and Expert, I get a certain percentage from the client stores that I have
set up. And I get paid by Shopify two times per month and it is about
$850.
What would you invest in if you could make that kind of extra income
each month, passive while continuing doing well paid one-time web
design projects?
In a short time you could for sure have the choice to:
● Buy a brand new Mac laptop for your work (recommended)
● Get lost somewhere exotic, or travel to Iceland (recommended)
● Check out my video from that trip:
https://youtu.be/IQ9HppIn6pE
● Afford to work, eat, and enjoy more time out
● Buy something nice for a friend
● Buy access to online courses and training to become even better
at your craft and skills. (which will improve your business)
● Order a Bose noise-canceling headset to have peace while
working
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
● Buy some new clothes and shoes to match your entrepreneurial
lifestyle as a freelance online business owner. (personal
branding)
And you know what? here is where it all starts. Right in this eBook with
the free training, I’ll be sending you.
Is this lifestyle something you would like?
Have the mindset to not be a “sheepling”
If you’re looking to find a new way to make a living or to have a career
change. Or simply having fun by learning some cool new skills and
make some extra income as a side hustle, this eBook and training will
make it so.
The question is, do you have the mindset? I don’t care about your
education, it doesn’t mean anything.
The reason I help other people make a living out of their skills is that
I’m a simply rebel of the norms. The educational system sucks, and
working to simply survive in a 9-5 job is not for me. So I quit many
years ago and have been working on my online business for many
years.
And I know so many people that have some quite valuable built-in
high-quality skills they don’t use. Simply because they do what most
of their friends, family, and the society around them do.
The care-face daily grind.
I dropped out of that carousel years ago. I wanted to own my ship to
sail where ever I wanted! And one way for me to have this has been as a
Web Designer.
Now, the other main business I work on is as a mindset coach for
leaders and entrepreneurs.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
With 17 years background in Taekwon-Do as Martial Arts combined
with coaching mixed with business practice and training, I help people
see LIFE more clearly and think powerful thoughts.
Mindset for leaders. Both leaders as SEO’s, managers,
decision-makers, and women and men as leaders of their own family,
and their daily life.
You need the right mindset for this eBook. The content and training are
NOT complicated at all. But some people tend to quit early. I guess their
dream was not strong enough, or they think less of themselves and
their skills.
Don’t be like most other people.
Stand out. Not for other people, but for own good. Be different. It can be
scary to stand out. But damn, it’s so much cooler. And it feels a lot
better.
You may have heard Steve Jobs say:
“Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the
round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently --
they're not fond of rules…
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only
thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things…
they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the
crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think
that they can change the world, are the ones who do”.

This eBook got two parts in it.
● A step-by-step guide with explanations to get you going in the
right order and with the right tools.
● A 7-day worksheet to help you stay on track.
It’s short, simple, and effective. And the objective of this training is to
complete two main goals within the coming week.
1. Create a new website for you as a freelancer/Web Designer
2. Get your first customer project within 1 week!
You will (hopefully) have some questions along the way. So on the last
page of this eBook, there will be spaces for questions that you may
have for each day's tasks. Write them down. There is help out there.
If you signed up to get this eBook in the proper way, there will be one
email delivered to you every day from me. This is to help you out and
bring you the correct links and resources so you don’t have to search
and try out things. Bad idea.
If you got this eBook from a friend, that’s awesome. But it won’t help much
without receiving my e-mails that come with it.
You can go here and get all of it: h
ttps://www.johnmac.pro/ebook/
You will find some of the links in this eBook, but not the direct links to
happy-hour goodies. That will be found in the e-mail series.
I will send you the direct links for where to go next for each chapter.
Some of these links will be my affiliate links, which also may include
discounts and benefits to you. So make sure to use them so you don’t
miss out. Plus, you’re helping me out as I may receive a small earning
from those links. It helps cover the cost of creating this ebook and the
free training for you.

Investments in your career as a
Freelance Web Designer
Part of my goal with this eBook is to help you start a career with as
little investment as possible. Of course, there will be a few gold coins to
invest for a few important things, just so you don’t end up with the
cheapest solutions that will have you work with shitty tools, apps, or
services.
You know, to start a “business” in the way we may perceive it usually
equals a huge money hoarding practice and investment. Some sell their
souls, their bodies, hell they get rid of all their shit to go all-in at some
risky adventure. Some times being dependent on investors that have to
believe in our idea.
But it’s not necessarily the case anymore. Not this type of cute money
making journey that you’ll be creating with this eBook.
With this weeks training, you’re not being dependent on anybody’s
money investment. You’re the owner of your own damn ship! Because
the cash needed to start THIS kind of online business is within reach
for everybody.
You most likely have a mobile phone. And do you have a computer?
Then you have the tools you need! Glory be to your awesomeness ✊🏻
Now let’s all hold hands and sing “Kumbaya”.
Free Internet Wifi’s can be found anywhere. If you don’t have Wifi at
home, do like I said, dress a little sexy, and bring a cup of takeaway tea
to enjoy a hotel lobby somewhere. You’re on a business trip!
If the receptionist gently asks if they can help you, kindly reply that
you’re doing awesome and are just waiting on a business meeting. End
with: “I bet you know someone that would be in the need of a new
website, yes?”...
You could also go to the library. The Matrix is everywhere.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
If you picture yourself as capable of working online from home, at a
café or some co-working space, the investment is so low, it’s a joke.
Excuse Moi and hold on while I laugh a little.
I know the cost of working an online business. It’s tiny. And with the
training in this eBook, I find it cool to keep this cost low. So the
“investment” we’re talking about here is the bare minimum, and so
affordable that you could pick and turn in empty bottles to make it
happen.
I will make sure to give you the links to the tools, services, and
platforms you need to set up your business. Some are free, and some
have a small cost.
I will also help you set up your project management system, which
themes and plugins to use, and how to talk to your clients.
You may have a job, or you may go to school, but starting this as a
side-gig. It’s a good idea. Don’t quit your job just yet. In case you are
like 70-80% of the population that can’t stand their daily job, stick
with it for still some time. And instead, get motivated that you’re (in
secret) are working on your own online business now.
What’s your business name going to be like? How about your logo?
Are you ready to set up your website and have your online platform
that generates an income?
I know I am.
So let’s start this 7-day training to have your first customer Web
Design project within one week.

Get started as a new Web Designer
Hey, before you start shaking and froth around your mouth from
excitement, here some practical tips before we start.
So each day I will be explaining the next step for you to take. You may
go right ahead and overdo yourself at your will and plow through this
eBook in one day. But you won’t see more than one e-mail per day.
Let’s try to be like grownups, keep our pants on, and walk mindfully
towards the end goal for these seven days. Shall we?
And I’m going to be simple in my explanations and keep things short.
There will not be a lot of choices when it comes to tools, online
services, and methods to do web design and creative online work. But I
want you to be able to complete the goals for this coming week. So I
will simplify things.
Now, the 7-day goals are:
To have your new website up and
running and close the deal with your first
web design client in one week.
For us to accomplish this, I will only suggest smooth workflows,
methods, and the tools that I know is working well and will be a good
fit for your own Web Design business. It’s tools and services that I use
myself in my work.
Each day will have a corresponding day in the checklists worksheet
page in this eBook. Maybe you should print it out unless you’re
working on an iPad and have a pen?
The reason I have laid out this weeks journey and tasks in this way is so
you can follow specific steps to help you start in the right manner. And
doing the right things in the correct order. You will have less pondering
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
and stomping around, and instead, enjoy smooth sailing since I’m
giving you the map.
Oh, stop it will you. You’re welcome…
So this eBook, the worksheet, and the emails will explain the exact
steps for you to take. And like I mentioned, I will provide you with all
the links to the right tools, services, and websites to use.
But the purpose of this eBook is to be short, effective, and for you as
the reader to think for yourself, figure things out, and not being carried
all the way to the finish line without lifting a finger.
That would be bad mentoring of me, and I would only help you become
helpless.
Don’t worry though. By using your brain and a little bit of free will,
we’ll complete this week faster than you expect.
Each day will have a separate page in this eBook to keep things tidy and
clear. So let’s begin with today's actions on Day 1.
Bear in mind that help is also available if you so desire. I do offer
accelerated 1-on-One coaching to help you to the right things and get
paid faster from your clients. I also work with entrepreneurs to
improve an existing business, and to work on leveling up their
professional goals.
Go to h

you have. This will greatly improve your progress and growth if you’re
serious about making an income and branding yourself as a Web
Designer or other freelancer doing creative work online.
Figure-shit-out mentality
You know what? The school didn’t teach me ANYTHING about
discovering my best abilities, hidden qualities, managing money, or
developing my mindset to do my best in life.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
And I had to figure things out on my own after a nasty childhood and
moving away from my stepfather number five. Later, I was living alone
with my dog up in the countryside when I was 18 years old.
I don’t have any formal education, as they call it. But I do think I got
more hours of practical, hands-on training and book reading than
most conventional students.
The thing is, as long as you decide that you’re smarter than what
school would say you are, you’ll be fine. Ensmarten yourself, get the
figure-shit-out mentality in place, and rock on.
Plus, here are a few tips to make sure you won’t stop in your tracks for
the coming week.
Customer support will help you
For the hosting company and other services you sign up to, their
customer support will gladly help you along.
For example, you could ask them “How do I activate SSL on my
domain?” and they will either guide you or just do it for you. For other
services, like a project management system like Plutio.com, there are
help files and learning videos. Besides that, Leo and his team that runs
the platform will help you out.
Oh, and while you chat with them, and basically with anyone:
Romantically speak to them about how your intuition tells you that
they have a friend that is looking to set up a new website.
Hey, we gotta be out and about, right?
The great YouTube oracle
Heard about YouTube?
This is the search platform number two on this planet. (Google is
number one). If you’re stuck on one of the tasks for any of the coming
days in this 7-day training, I’m sure you will find the answers on
YouTube.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Don’t think you’re so unique with your challenge. Someone else
already faced the same bump and have most likely the answer for you.
The various help docs
Ah, yeah I know this is a very boring resource.
But just keep it in mind that there can be some good tips and insights
in the documentation and help section for the various services and
tools we use. It can be exactly what you need in a moment of
stuck-ness, if you encounter any.
All the services, apps, and tools we use in our work have help sections
and documentations. And by spending a few minutes, you WILL also
learn something valuable for later.
Ask and learn from a Facebook group
There are a butt-load of awesome Facebook groups that help people to
grow a business online. And groups specifically for new Web Designers
and WordPress users. It’s all free, and there will be some good answers
to acquire as long as you don’t keep leaching the community for
everything you need to know.
And hey, sit back and relax. Seems like I took care of this also for you.

An important note at last.
I’m providing this eBook and the email course for free to help people

the emails do not include support for you as a subscriber.
Everybody wants free help, but that’s just not possible. Something you

on money-making activities.
So please don’t be tempted to reach out for any technical help on any of
the 7-day lessons.
Any other request is always welcome of course. I have spoken.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Day 1 - Register your domain and
set up WordPress with Divi
The first task we need to start with is to first make sure (unless you
already have a domain and website) you are a Web Designer that have
your own website. It’s important to have a place online to send your
customers to and for them to contact you.
It’s also for you to get started with domain registering, installing
WordPress, themes, and setting up the basic website, so you have a
space to practice.
So today, for Day 1, this is what we will be doing:
1. Register your domain with hosting included (domain name +
server space)
2. Install WordPress with SSL (automatically)
3. Get Divi and install it in WordPress (or Oxygen Builder)
So the first day in this 7-day training will most likely be the most
technical for you. But it’s not hard. And it will be a good practice
because you will be doing the same thing again and again for your
future customers.
Register your domain name with hosting
This is the first thing we need to do. You need a domain name and
server space to install WordPress and stuff.
And you will have two choices to pick from for registering your domain
name with hosting included. The choice you make will be for how
simple you want the hosting control panel to be.
Pick O
ne.com if you want simple and cheap hosting with a very easy to
use control panel and interface.
Pick the Siteground company if you are okay with a more advanced
(but not hard) to use hosting service which is more flexible and aimed
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
for professional Web Designers. I recommend the second one,
Siteground.
You will find the correct links to the right packages in the email for Day
1. In that e-mail, you will also find explanations on how to register,
install WordPress, and set up Divi.
What will you choose to have as your domain name for your business?
Let’s not spend too much time overthinking that. But you COULD
consider your name, as long as it’s not too long or complicated.
If you’re born with an unspeakable name
from the hillside mountains of Mongolia
that just sounds like Daffy Duck when I
say it, pick something else.
You could register a completely random and abstract name as long as
its catchy and short.
You know, maybe that's better than pondering deep into a cup of
coffee, looking for the right swirl and buff of steam to tell you the
utterly perfect and divine name that you were born to use from the
dawn of day.
I mean, we only have one day to do this. Unless you’re cheating and tell
me now that “Yo dude was I thinking of starting from tomorrow”.
Whatever sweetheart. Just pick a name and hit REGISTER NOW! (or
whatever the form says)
Thanks. Next…
2. Install WordPress (automatically)
After you have registered your domain name you can log into the
control panel for the hosting company you picked. (Sometimes you
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
would have to wait a few minutes, or even hours before your domain is
ready and updated with DNS)
Both Siteground and One.com has a menu option where you can go and
install WordPress automatically with a few clicks. Go and do that now if
your domain and hosting are ready to go. You’ll get an email
notification about that after registering.
With One.com you will have SSL installed and activated automatically.
With Siteground, it must be activated. Use “LetsEncrypt” that’s part of
the package in your hosting.
It’s no problem installing WordPress without SSL over HTTP, and
simply activating and updating WordPress later.
Do the words SSL and HTTP sound scary? Don’t worry. These two
terms are simple, and you’ll learn it. But when you log into Siteground
and start installing WordPress, you will see the choice of using HTTP. If
you’re still freaking out, just jump on a chat with Siteground support.
They are awesome.
3. Purchase and install the Divi theme
WordPress use “themes” to display websites. And there are millions of
them. Both free and paid themes. For your business, we will be using
one of two themes. Or both, when the time or type of customer project
is right. First, y
ou will begin with the Divi builder.
And this will be your second investment. And it’s not a lot. At the time
of writing this eBook, the price for Divi will be $89 for access to both
Divi, all the other themes, and all plugins that ElegantThemes.com
offers.
It’s a clever investment because you will be using Divi to make money
by using it to create beautiful websites for your customers.
Hint:
The Divi theme comes with a long list of pre-made templates for various
business types, installed with one click! Here’s an example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d43E_vOuW9E
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Divi will be the main theme you will be working with for both your own
website and future customer projects. It’s also the theme you will be
using for your coming customer project at the end of this week.
Why Divi?
Divi has become one of the most famous and advanced WordPress
themes on the planet. With advanced, I mean in the way the theme
works and all the awesome modules and workflows you’ll find.
It’s superfast to add blog sections, e-mail optins, forms, login
modules, and a long list of other modules that come with the Divi
builder.
It’s a visual website builder which makes it blazingly fast for you to
create websites by using sections, rows, and modules constructed by
click and drag. And you’re not working in the WordPress admin. You’re
working right on the front page of the website, seeing exactly what
you’re creating.
Divi will make it fast, simple, and a lot of fun for you to make websites.
And it’s going to be faster than you think to build your own website
this week.
No, don’t worry about any portfolio to show off on your website for
now. I have never had one, and will never bother setting up one on my
own site. My customers rarely ask, and if they do, I’ll just send them a
few site links in our email correspondence.
Consider the Oxygen builder for WordPress
There is another amazing website builder for WordPress. One that I use
more now than Divi. Which theme I chose depends on the complexity
of the job I’m doing and if the customer will be maintaining their
website alone. In that case, I would choose the Divi builder.
Oxygen builder is a little bit more advanced. It is still a visual drag and
drops page and website builder for WordPress. But I think you should
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
know a little bit more about some minor technical details around
website builts and workflows before using it.
If you are not completely new to Web Design and know a little bit about
the technical sides of CSS values and page flows, you could also go and
purchase Oxygen builder and start with that.
At the time of writing this eBook, which now is 9:26 pm on a Sunday
evening. The price will be $99 for a lifetime license.
The benefit of Oxygen is that it’s more flexible and customizable for
more advanced page and custom post type setup in WordPress.
Something we won’t spend time on in this eBook. And it’s a lot faster
and lightweight in its native code that Divi and any other WordPress
site builder.
You can test this out by going to w
ww.gtmetrix.com and test their
website.
Anyway, Divi and Oxygen will be your only two choices and
work-horses when it comes to building websites for yourself and your
customer from now on.
You should start with Divi as this will be faster, simpler, and easier for
your customers to make changes themselves. And, you will produce
good looking websites faster which is important for you now.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Day 2 - Set up your invoicing
system for your money flow
What you will be doing in the second step of your business set up this
week is a lot simpler and faster than the technical setup in Day 1.
There are two reasons why I have put this step in day 2 for your Web
Designer business setup.
1. To make sure your system for charging money is ready to go
2. To make sure you’re professionally set up from the start
It’s easy to stand out and look professionally set up with your business
and branding online. Most people just don’t know how to do it, or they
don’t give a crap. You will give a crap, be professional, good looking,
handsome, with a nice haircut, and truly stand out.
I wanted to make sure we get you set up with the proper invoicing
system early on so you are ready to charge for your Web Design
services in case you’re getting a paid customer sooner than later.
One important note here!
If you are completely new and just starting your career change as a
Web Designer or creative freelancer working online, be prepared…
-to NOT charge anything for your work in the beginning!
Yes, that’s right. People pay for what you can deliver. They pay for the
confidence in your work, your brainpower, your skills. YOU are the
product. And when starting, you would rather get a few website
projects done with happy customers that will recommend you, than
not getting anything done.
It can be a lot easier to tell a potential customer this week that:
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Word Script:
“Hey, I’m in practice for some new skills I’m working on,
and I’d like to help you guys out with a new website
upgrade. You can decide for yourself if you’d like to pay
for my service when the website is done. No obligations”.
I’m not saying that you should NOT charge for your first website
project this week. But be honest about your work, your skill level, and
what you can deliver. And sure, if you could get paid a $100 - $200 for a
simple website, do it! It will pay back your investments for the domain
and the purchase of the Divi theme.
So, here’s today’s tasks.
1. An online invoicing system
2. Stripe payment services
3. A new PayPal account (unless you have one)
Let’s use this day to get these things set up to have you ready for the
money to come into your account.
And there will be no need to smash your piggy bank so innocently
sitting there on your shelf for a rainy day. No Sir, the services and tools
you’ll be signing up for today are completely free!
Praise Gandalf, we moving on here at NO cost!
Waveapps invoicing system
I recommend Waveapps invoicing system. They are well known, have a
well-maintained platform, and it will be easy for you to charge for your
services in several currencies. (If needed).
Example:
One of the previous coaching clients that I worked with for a few
months was a girl from Serbia. She was living alone with her mother in
a small apartment, barely making a living. She was unhappy and felt
miserable. After a few months of mindset corrections and some skills
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
training, she now makes money on a steady basis with her new Divi
website and business. She is using Waveapps to charge her customers.
And she even got a monthly client being auto-invoiced every month.
This is something you also can do in Waveapps.
Go to W
aveapps.com and create your account. It’s free.
With this service, you will be ready to send your new customers a
beautiful invoice with your branding straight to their e-mail.
They will then be able to pay you with a credit card, PayPal, or by
regular bank transfer with automatically attached PDF invoice in the
email.
Create a Stripe account
Unless you have heard about it, Stripe is the leading online credit card
payment system on the planet. I have feelings for them, and so do
thousands of other business online.
They have a beautiful platform which integrates with everything. (even
your refrigerator, I think)
You need a Stripe account to be able to let your customers pay you with
their credit cards. After you have set up your Stripe account you can
then log into your Waveapps account and connect it with Stripe. This
way your customers can click a link in the invoice email to pay you
directly.
Setting up a Stripe account is free, with no monthly cost. The only cost
for the use of Stripe is per payment transaction. Just like with PayPal
and other online payment platforms. You can’t avoid it. The cost is
usually around 2.4% of the transaction being processed. Try using
Stripe as much as you can as PayPal sucks with their clever and tricky
costs. I have no feelings for PayPal. (other than that it’s cool that Elon
Musk created it)
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Create or upgrade your PayPal account
If you already have a PayPal account, you may have to upgrade it to a
business account. This is free, and you will find the steps to do that in
your PayPal account dashboard.
If you don’t have an account, create one today. Then log into your
Waveapps account to connect it. This way, your customers can choose
to pay you using PayPal when sending them their invoice. I wouldn’t
recommend PayPal (PayPal suck, remember?) but a of people want to
pay using PayPal.
Some customers prefer it as they don’t want to pay with credit card
other places online. And they may know and trust PayPal more. (Sad,
since it sucks vacuum)
When setting up these services are complete, you have a ready to go
platform to charge and receive payments for all your local or creative
online work for customers.
When your customers receive your invoice to their email, they will see
a link to open the “online invoice”. There they will see two options. To
pay with a credit card using Stripe, or their PayPal account (But PayPal
Suck). They can also choose to download the invoice as PDF and pay via
bank transfer.
Important note:
If you DO get a paid customer sooner than later and agree on a price,
tell the customer that the way you usually do your work is to charge
50% of the price you agree on, in advance.
At least keep this note for the future, as this is the way to work with
customers. Always charge 50% to 70% for your services in advance
before any work starts.
And when you do, indicate this with a note on the invoice that you send
out.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Now that you have set up your payment services and can send out good
looking invoices, you may want to spend a little bit of time in
Waveapps to get to know the service. And to make some nice changes
to the invoice templates and create your branding by adding your
name, address, and logo if you have one.
You’ll find the correct links for today’s tasks in the email for Day 2.
Oh, and PayPal sucks.

Day 3 - Start looking for potential
customers for a project
Tomorrow, on day 4 we will be looking at setting your systems to
handle and work with your new web design projects in a slick way.
But first, it’s time to start planning out where to get your first
customer project for a new website this week. Remember that your goal
on day 7 is to have your first website project as a new Web Designer.
Either paid or as a free service to built reputation and expertise.
So scouting out potential customers should start early. And since we
have set up your invoicing system ready to go, you’re ready to send an
invoice in case a paid project would come up early this week.
Here are today’s tasks:
● Make a list of potential customers
So let’s do a little brainstorming together using this form. Starting
with the most potential ones to pay you on the top. Apart from that, the
most important goal by Day 7 is to have a new project. So your
“customer” could end up being a local store owner you know, a friend,
or a local sports team. So brainstorm the following ideas of businesses
to approach.
● A company: Do you know a CEO, boss, or decision-maker in a
company, locally or online? Contact them with your offer.
● A local store: Do you know an owner or have a friend working at a
local store that would need a new, or upgrade an existing
website? Pick a store that’s not part of a bigger business chain, as
the store owner usually can’t decide for the whole company.
● A sports team: Are you into a sports team, local membership, or
know anyone who does with a need for a new website?
● A friends new business: Do you know anyone that has started a
new business or have a money-making business from home? A
dog trainer, coach, financial advisor, spiritual counselor.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
● A friends hobby: This is the last one to be paid. But could be a
good reference project still.
Be creative, tough, and direct in this approach. But be service-minded,
and let them know your purpose of this work. To grow your network
and have your Web Designer work out there.
Remember that the most important thing this week is to get your
project in house and do the work. The more experience you get, the
faster and simpler it will be for you to get the next job. Which could be
even higher paid.
Write out some ideas in the table below.
Business/Name Their activity Contacted
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Some words to use to get the job
I know that for some, the scary part is to ask for these jobs. The best
advice I can give here is this, and it may need you to remove some old
programming from the past.
“The customer is NOT always right”...
This is some old sales crap that to me sounds more like “obey and serve
whatever the client wants at all cost to get the sale”.
But no, the client is not always right. And you shouldn’t approach a
company with your tail between your legs and your hat in your hand,
being all shaky and nervous as you were applying for a new job.
Nope. You’re now the captain of your ship and you decide who to work
with. You’re now in the position to offer your services to this business,
or friend, that you are approaching.
Next, before you visit the business or talk to any decision-makers
regarding a new website. Make sure you do a quick research about
them on the following points:
● What’s their website like today (if any)
● Where do they have their hosting (if any)
● Could you make it better using Divi?
● What functions could you add to their site to make it more useful?
Here are a few scripted words to use when approaching the business to
suggest your offer. If they don’t want this, it’s their loss, so move on.
Word Script one: (flow into this in a natural conversation)
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
“So the thing I wanted to suggest for you today is to give
you a new website. I got this passion for web design, and
I’m improving my skills and new brand. And I’m willing to
help you out for a very affordable price. Do you have any
budget for your business to look good/better online? ”
Word Script two:
“One thing that too many website owners struggle with is
working with outdated website systems and themes. If you
want something good-looking that you also can maintain
yourself, I’ll be the one to set this up for you. What’s
your budget to improve your most important online
platform?”
Word Script three: ( More humble)
“I’m starting up my new freelance business helping people
look good online. I would like to offer you a brand new
website with the most modern and flexible website builder
for you. I’ll make it a use-case for you guys, and you can
set the price after I’m done”
Now read through these suggestions a few times and maybe even
practice with some friends. Make it natural for you without sounding
like a castrated robot without feelings. And for sure don’t sing and
overact it like the Sound of Music.
Just, consider my suggestion and make it sound like a confident:
__________ (your name)
Some administrative tips before starting the project
There will be some questions coming up for you during a conversation
with a customer and while planning for the project. Here are a few
typical details we can cover right now.
If they have a domain and hosting already, you will need to ask them
for the login to their hosting company’s control panel. If they don’t
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
have any website, domain name, or hosting, you will be the one
suggesting it. Not the customer, unless they insist.
Think about what we went through in Day 1. Keep it simple for both you
and the customer, or a little more advanced. Picking a domain name is
usually easier for a registered business that already has a name. So no
need to ask a Shaman.
Ask the customer, do you think you will be doing much of the changes
for the hosting and website yourself?
If not, you’re free to pick the hosting company you are comfortable to
work with.
Make it clear to the customer that they will, of course, pay for their
domain and hosting if they don’t have one. If you will be doing the
domain and hosting signup for them, they will have to give you their
credit card number. (DO BE professional with handling such
information. And make sure you take note of both credit card number,
date, and CVC number.
Not all clients will hand you their credit card information (of course) So
if not, you will tell them that they will receive an email from you with
the link to click to sign up.
And as the clever Web Designer, you are, you will sign up to either
One.com or Siteground affiliate program first so you can send your
customer your affiliate link and make a few dollars even before you
start working.
Make sure you take care of things and make it easy for the customer to
say yes. Don’t bother them with too much technical stuff at all. Serve
them and make them feel taken care off. If you’re challenged, make
notes and tell them you’re getting back to them about it their question
or comment. Just right after you have hacked the inter-webs for figure
out what the hell they asked about so you can answer them with a
confident voice in the next conversation.
If they don’t have a domain and hosting and you will make this happen
for them. Ask them what kind of e-mail address they would like to
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
create for the domain. Like “mail@yourdomain.com”. Way too many
businesses use some private emails like Gmail or other weird stuff.
So, if there are questions you can’t answer, or you’re unsure if the
details and work they ask about can be done by you; tell them that you
will look into this and follow-up on email with them.
It’s totally fine and recommended to be honest and tell them that you
have reviewed their request, and would recommend they move on with
a different Web Designer at this time.
How should you price and charge for your work?

Day 4 - Setting up your Project
Management System
In this step, we will be doing some very important preparations for
your online business. You will pick and decide an online service to
manage your projects, tasks, and to-dos as a Web Designer.
This is important.
You don’t want to keep messing around with a cheap program or app
on your computer that is not cloud-based (online). And you will NOT
use post-it notes on your wall. And you will not use a spreadsheet,
Word, or any other random tool that will only mess things up for you.
Find and sign up with a paid or free service that’s intended to keep
track of to-do’s and projects. An online service that does not require
ONE specific computer. But can be accessed from any computer you
have or will buy later. Having a well established and effective online
tool for this will make the work a lot more fun and manageable for you.
It’s important that you keep a professional level of tidy-ness and
organized workflow so you don’t make mistakes or forget to-do’s and
lose track of progress. Your clients will notice this over time and they
won't come back.
I won’t be spending time explaining how to use these tools. That’s your
task to invest some time in. But I’m recommending what I know works
well and that will integrate with other systems.
Here are three suggestions for you. The correct links are to be found in
the email for Day 4 that was sent to you.
Plutio
At the time of writing and in the current segment of my business, this
is my favorite platform to maintain and manage my businesses. I keep
all my projects and my related tasks for both client work and internal
projects here in Plutio.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
As a super-cool member of my e-mail training, y ou will get a 20%
lifetime discount on Plutio. Check the email for Day 4 to find the
coupon code to be used.
Basecamp
This is most likely the most famous platform for online entrepreneurs
and freelancers. It’s been around for a long time with several version
being upgraded and improved. B asecamp is nice, but there is a lot of
features missing that I found in Plutio instead. Now I find it a little bit
too expensive compared to what I’m getting, and what’s missing.
Asana
Asana is also a well-known project management platform. It is less
visual than the other two I have mentioned. But is a very good tool to
keep a good overview of your projects and tasks.
You can sign up and use Asana for free, with some limited functions.
All these three apps have also some good mobile apps so you can stay
updated on the go with your jobs and tasks.
Use well established online services
There are endless other online services and apps for both Mac,
Windows, and mobile. Whatever you chose, pick a solution that is well
established so you won’t lose your data after a few months of use in
case the company or platform disappears.
I also recommend you pick a service that also has a mobile app
included so you can stay updated on the go.
In my private coaching with people like you, I also teach how to get
started having your own virtual team. That’s when it’s going to be
important to have a good platform where ya'll can mingle, share cat
videos, and talk about your projects.

Day 5 - Gather a few tools of the
trade to be productive
This chapter is a fun an interesting one. And I hope you find it as useful
as I love talking about it. I’m a productivity geek and love helping
people establish productive workflows with tools they love using every
day.
When you start doing work on your computer and having a business
online, there are a few more sets of tools, services, and apps that you
will need.
I have been working with and tried A LOT of different tools and
services. There’s just an unbelievable amount of both magical and
crappy apps out there. And new apps keep popping up every day.
It’s easy to get lost in a candy store. Until you’ve had enough, you snap,
and one day just run screaming into the forest night in overwhelm.
Productivity is an art, and you need to be
mindful about it. But with the right tools,
your work will be fun and effective.
In this chapter, I will suggest apps that are very well known, are
top-rated, and that I use myself in my work.
The creative craftsman great bundle of tools
You may have noticed that the majority of entrepreneurs and
self-employed in the creative and media business world are Mac users.
There is a reason for that. So many of the apps I recommend will be
Mac only. I left the Windows swiss cheese many years ago.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
But many of the tools I recommend here is an online service that is
platform-independent. I have roughly outlined this list of tools
grouped by area or type of work.
Web Browsers
Brave browser - An open-source excellent browser that focuses on
privacy and speed. It’s loading websites 2 - 8x faster than Chrome and
Safari. Chrome extensions work also in the Brave browser.
https://brave.com/
Chrome - the second browser on the list. You would (mostly) need to
run either Brave or Chrome because of the online tools and apps you
will be using. Just know that Chrome is owned by Google, and they
don’t give a shit about tracking you. (Use Chrome and install the
DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials)
https://www.google.com/chrome/
Firefox - The new Firefox is going the same way regarding privacy. It’s
a good browser with a lot of good extensions.
https://www.firefox.com
Password managers (You will need one!)
● 1Password (Mac) - The top password manager app for Mac and
iPhone. A very slick app where you can log into websites
automatically by a keyboard shortcut.
● LastPass (Mac/Win, paid) - Another good and well-known
password manager that I use before.
Images and graphics work
● Acorn (Mac, paid) - A very cheap and good replacement for
Photoshop.
● Canva (online, free and paid) - The one tool many people use for
creating banners, social media posts, logos, and other graphics
for print and online use.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
● GIMP - A free Photoshop replacement app that started out as a
ative Linux app years ago.
Coding, development, and FTP
● SublimeText code editor (Mac, Win) - A free and elengant code
editor.
● Transmit FTP (Mac) -
● FileZilla FTP (Mac, Win) -
VPN services for security
● Surfshark - A pretty new service on the web. Cool guys with a
no-log policty in their business.
● Windscribe - My second choice of VPN service. They also got a
no-log policy in their privacy statement. And they offer a pretty
good ad-blocker in the browser extension.
Very useful utilities
● CashNotify - (Mac, Win) - Beautiful and slick app giving you
instant updates about all your payments and payouts to your
bank from Stripe and PayPal.
● Pocket (Browser + mobile apps) - To collect your favorite articles
online and save them for ever.
● Zoom meeting (Mac, Win) - The preferred method of doing video
calls and screen share with clients.
● TripMode (Mac, Win) A must have app for people like you and
me. TripMode controls your data when using hotspot to connect
your computer to 3G/4G.
● Calendly - Online meeting scheduling calendar. Integrates with
your Google and iCloud calendar. And you can connect it with
Zoom. When people book a time with you, a Zoom link for the
video call with being sent to the attendee.
● Coda.io (Browser) - Awesome tool
Team chat and communication
● Slack - The worlds famous team chat app where we use
#channels to group conversations and topics.

● Telegram - Free, open-source messenger app for all platforms,
famous for its security and a lightweight app. You can also create
groups and channels with this app. Supports fast file transfers up
to 2GB.

Day 6 - Collect your WordPress
plugins and other resources
For day 6 I wanted to help you out with some advice and tips on some
typical WordPress plugins and other resources that you most likely will
need for your client projects.
It’s a good idea to have a list of go-to plugins that you know and trust
so it’s faster for you to set up various types of websites.
I don’t recommend downloading plugins just to keep them on your
computer. Because they keep updating the versions so fast that your
saved plugin zip-files will be outdated within a couple of weeks.
Instead, just keep the links to the WordPress.org or developers
download pages.
Plugins quickly and easily expand the
functions of what your clients can do with
their websites, without coding.
There is no reason to re-invent the wheel and re-create what so many
others have already created as plugins, in a better way. Coders that
truly THINK code, and not design or all the other technical setups of a
website.
You will be building websites for clients, and they will most likely have
various requirements for both design and functionality. These are
some of the typical needs clients will ask you about:
● A contact form with specific fields, checkboxes, and lists
● A payment form for credit card and PayPal
● Custom image galleries
● Membership system
● Instagram feeds
● Social Sharing buttons
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
● Video integrations
● e-Commerce plugins to sell online
There are thousands of plugins so you can add features and functions
on your client websites like contact forms, credit card payment forms,
automatic image optimization, website speed improvements, security,
WordPress maintenance, and all kinds of other features.
Make sure you pick the right plugins
But you mustn’t just pick the first plugin that comes up in Google
search. You should use well-maintained plugins that are kept up to
date, have a high rating, and that preferably has a lightweight code.
So for you to be prepared I will send you some links to important
WordPress plugins in the email for Day 6.
After you have added a few plugins to a WordPress website it will start
to load more slowly because of all the scripts and CSS files being
loaded. So never install more than what you need, just to be fancy.
Also, know that both the Divi and Oxygen website builders already have
a lot of built-in modules and functionality. But sometimes we need
some more specific plugins for expanded functions on their website.
So in the email for Day 6 you will find a list of the top plugins I use and
that I know will help you.
Only download plugins from WordPress.org or the
developer's website
This is an important note and lesson. When you search for plugins, the
first option should be within your WordPress admin, or at
WordPress.org. Never search online and download a plugin from some
random website.
Also, all the links that I share with you in the emails for this training
are either linked straight to WordPress.org or the developer's websites
where they originate from.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
Only download plugins from the
WordPress admin, WordPress.org, or the
developers' website directly.
The only reason you would download from an external website would
be if it’s from the developer itself. There is an abundance of top-quality
plugins for WordPress that are sold from the developer websites.
You may, first, find a free version of their plugin at the WordPress
repository, as we call it. Then if you like it and want to extend with the
paid functionalities, go and buy the plugin from their website and
download from there.
Why?
The reason you don’t want to download plugins from any other sources
is that you don’t know if it’s the real, clean plugin. It could be tampered
with and modified, which will have you install bugs and ghosts in the
matrix of your website.
A prepared list of plugins for you
So where do you find all the plugins I recommend? Do NOT worry. It’s
taken care of. Intead of you spending time searching and testing out
plugins, I have prepared a list for you.
Check out the e-mail for Day 6 to find all the plugins you need.

Day 7 - Start your first project for a
client
The goal for this eBook is to get you started as a Web Designer, fast.
Without coding skills. And so it shall be!
If you think you could enjoy a life doing
work for other entrepreneurs, small
business, and companies while traveling
or working at a café. Then don’t quit.
Because if you can picture yourself with a laptop, a cup of coffee or tea,
and with your invoicing system set up, you will be making money
sooner than later.
There seems to be a great need of more web designers, social media
managers, Virtual Assistants, coders, video editors, and other creative
craftspeople out there. And I’m not surprised. Because this is the way
the world is moving now, and it’s still a new reality for the earthlings.
If you would like to work on a computer, being your own boss, setting
your prices, and create an income being creative in your own brand,
pick and choose your area of expertise.
And don’t forget all the possible streams of passive income, which I
won’t have the time or space to cover in this eBook. That needs to be a
separate topic that does not have to do with you starting as a Web
Designer.
But it’s something you should keep in mind early on to make sure you
work in a clever way.
If you have followed the details in this eBook and with the
corresponding emails that I have been sending, there is no way you
should NOT be getting a project to work on within a reasonable time.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
I have shown you the steps to take by pointing in the right direction
and giving you the exact links to use. I suggested using customer
support whenever you got stuck, or go to YouTube and pick up some
how-to videos to help you move on. And I’m telling you now that there
is a need for more people like us out there. Not just web designers, but
other creative forms of work.
And remember, just like I did back when we were working with HTML,
everybody starts at some point. Everything I did, in the beginning,
looked like shit. Of course, the methods to work with web design at that
time was different than now. So you have a much easier time creating
websites as a beginner than I had. But I did make it!
Preparation for the new client job
So this is the last day where you, by the end of the day, have nailed ONE
customer that want you to build their new website.
Here are a few tips here for you to keep in mind when doing client
meetings and planning out their new website.
A reminder of some typical questions that I ask my new clients when
doing a Zoom call or in-person meeting with them.
● Do you have a website already?
● Is it WordPress or something else
● Where do you have your domain and hosting (if any)
● Could you send me some links to websites that you like (to
understand more of what kind of design and page setup they
would like)
● Do you need some special functionality on your website? (like
image galleries, forms, video embed, memberships, Instagram
feeds, - this is to figure out what they want, and IF this is a job
you can do)
● Do you plan to manage the website yourself, or do you want
someone else to do it for you? (To decide what theme builder to
use. Divi or Oxygen, and if it will be a potential client for you to
set up with a monthly subscription for recurring work)
● What’s your branding colors and logo like?
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
● Do you have content ready like text, images, videos, and other
necessities?
● What are some of the regular tasks you find very boring and
maybe struggling with that I could do for you? (another potential
recurring income task for you each month)
Very often, new clients that want a website don’t have their shit
together at all. So you’re ending up working the double amount of time
than what you planned for with the price quote you have set.
The reason is that their mind is very often on something else regarding
their business. Also, they know what a website is and what they need to
have one, but when it comes to doing the actual work, they forget that
they need some content. Text and images will be the first part.
So when a rough price has been agreed on, make sure that you will
have the stuff you need to get the job done.
Finish words of encouragement on the last day
If you completed reading this whole eBook, you should, by now, have
completed all the steps and suggestions that I have recommended. This
means you’re well set up to do work online.
Let’ do a short round-up of the last 7 days.
● You registered a new domain name which will be your business
brand and platform for the public and new customers to find you.
● You installed WordPress with Divi or Oxygen and set up a
website.
● Using Waveapps, you set up a professional payment platform so
you can send invoices to customers. And they can pay you using
credit cards through Stripe or PayPal. Or as regular bank transfer
with attached PDF invoice. When clients pay you now, Stripe will
send the payment to your bank account after 7 days.
● I suggested tools to handle and maintain your customer projects.
I hope you found one that you will like to work with. It’s
important to have this ready for when your client outlines the
tasks they want to be done.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
● I suggested and laid out a list of typical tools that you should
have in place to be ready to do the typical kind of work that you
will do.
● And I listed up an important and common list of WordPress
plugins for you to have ready.
So I hope that I so far have given you a flying start as a new Web
Designer. But of course, there is a learning curve. But my idea with this
eBook was to help people get started in an online craft and show them
that it is not as hard as many people think.
Very much of the qualities you should nurture from now is having the
mentality of “figure it out” and to be service-minded in a way so that
customers feel taken care of. Because it sells!
Your personality, your charisma and ability to solve problems and
challenges for a customer is something they will pay you for. Hey,
maybe it’s not even as a Web Designer, but something slightly
different than you will discover you got some hidden qualities to grow.
When you go out today to talk to your targeted customer, relax about
it, don’t stress about anything. And remember that you are your own
boss now and are in control of the situation and meeting. You don’t
have to work with anybody if you don’t like to.
So if you’re in to have a meeting with a CEO or decision maker that
seems to be a mock-face, tell them that you’re surveying different jobs
for a few potential projects and that you will get back to them.
This way you can pick and chose the jobs you would like and feel
confident that you can complete.
Hey, let me know how this list day is going for you. Send me an email at
beep@johnmac.pro and give me an update. I’ll personally get back to
you.
Good luck today,
Let’s make shit happen.

Tripple your start-up and growth
with 1-on-One training with me
If you’re still with me I wanted to say think you so much for reading
this eBook. I wanted it to be useful and effective, and I hope it has been.
But as being one that’s well into this business, it’s easy to go blind with
what I already know and forget about something very important that
you don’t know.
So, as a simple and kind act of reciprocity from you, I would like you to
take 3 min and give me some feedback on this eBook. Your feedback
would help me a lot and make it easier for me to adjust and improve.
You can leave a review here: h ttps://www.johnmac.pro/ebook/reviews/
Thank you for doing that. And thanks for downloading and reading
through this eBook, learn something new, and decide to venture out on
a journey for something that can easily become a career for you.
A craft that can, with the right mindset, can bring you up to flight
mode with a new income and a life of freedom. A lifestyle that so many
people are dreaming about.
And if you add in a little bit of personal branding, like a change of how
you dress, where you hang out, and WHO you hang out with. Your life
will change, dramatically.
Hey, it is the very reason I’m sitting here at a cozy café in Chiang Mai,
Thailand and writing this eBook for you. I decided many years ago that
I didn’t want to be part of the typical daily 9-5 crap that was just
draining my life force. And school was never an option. Why the hell
built more dept when I’m well equipped to teach and educate myself?
I wanted freedom, follow some bigger goals, and make use of my
personal qualities instead of just being a robot. Serving some other
corporate business that would just suck my energy dry.
How to become a Web Designer -without coding (Beta read)
There is a lot more cool stuff to learn. And I know that there’s a bunch
of stuff that I most likely should have put into this eBook. But I just
can’t stuff everything you should know in your face through an eBook
that’s meant for beginners.
Also, the best training that I offer is done in person. And that is why I
do coaching and mentoring as my main business. It is very effective.
And it accelerates everyone’s progress and income.
So what I’m suggesting here is that now is a perfect time for you to
have me by your side to help you through the biggest questions that
you have. And to work with you to improve your website, help with a
client’s website, teach you the best practices to get more paid, and
what to do so you begin building passive income. Not just one time paid
projects from clients.
How do you get customers to pay you more? How do you have them
sign up to a monthly deal with you so you can start having recurring
payments coming in? How do you get customers to use the right tools,
AND have you earn some passive income at the same time?
These things would be some of the improvements you would get help
with.
What else could I work with you on?
You can jump over to my page here and take a look at which coaching
package that would fit you. On this page, you can also connect with me
on live chat so you can ask me any questions before you sign up.
