Notation Express Documentation Demo PDF
Thanks for trying the demo of Notation Express, the fastest way to use Sibelius, Dorico,
and Musescore!
Demo Q & A
You need the 15-key Stream Deck console OR the Stream Deck Mobile app from Elgato (pur-
chased separately), and Sibelius, Dorico, or Musescore. The Stream Deck console and
Stream Deck Mobile are not included with the demo of Notation Express.
The demo gives you a sense of what it’s like to use Notation Express, but it includes just a
small subset of the hundreds of functions in the paid version, and is not intended to make
you super-productive — that’s what the paid version is for! Some folders in the demo do not
contain any actions, while others have quite a few. The demo uses the default shortcuts of
Sibelius, Dorico, or Musescore and does not include any of the custom keyboard shortcut
files or plug-ins that give Notation Express its true power.
Yes! However, if you’re using the demo with Stream Deck Mobile, be aware that there is only
a 3-day trial before you have to start paying for a subscription to the Stream Deck Mobile
app.
Can I change the demo Notation Express profile — move icons around, add my own
shortcuts, actions, etc.?
Yes! But if you start going down that road, you’ll probably want to actually purchase the full
version of Notation Express instead, which includes hundreds of functions all ready to go.
I love Notation Express and want to purchase the full version. How do I do that?
Just tap any of the flashing Get Notation Express buttons (subtle, right?) or head on over to
notationexpress.com. Once you purchase Notation Express and install it, you can delete
the demo profile.

Set up
If you haven’t done so already, download and install the Stream Deck desktop app from:
https://elgato.com/gaming/download
If you’re using the Stream Deck console, connect it to your computer via the attached USB
cable.
If you’re using Stream Deck Mobile on iOS, be sure that that your phone/tablet and your
PC are on the same wireless network. Download the iOS app here and purchase a sub-
scription if you haven’t done so already (a 3-day free trial is available):
https://itunes.apple.com/app/elgato-stream-deck-mobile/id1440014184?ls=1&mt=8&at=11lJDT
Launch the Stream Deck app on your desktop. Follow the instructions to pair your devices.
Double-click the .streamDeckProfile file from the demo packet that is appropriate for
your program (Sibelius or Dorico) and OS (Mac or Windows). This will import the Notation
Express profile into the Stream Deck desktop app.
Do this for each device (console or iOS device) you want to use Notation Express with.

All of the top-level buttons are folders that contain commands. The commands are gener-
ally self-explanatory, but if you have any questions about how they work or what they do,
consult the reference for your software program.

Certain folders contain subfolders with more commands. Subfolders are indicated by a
red border around the button. Folders on the main screen do not have a red border.

The full versions of Notation Express for Sibelius and Musescore have more than 250
commands. Notation Express for Dorico has more than 300 commands.
Notation Express has only been tested on English language setups. It may work with other
localization settings, but you may have to modify the key commands, the Stream Deck
shortcuts, or both.
Notation Express is built for the latest versions of Sibelius Ultimate (2020.1), Dorico Pro 3
(3.1), and Musescore (3.4.2) at this writing. It is not recommended to use it with earlier ver-
sions or the “lite” versions such as Sibelius First or the intermediate version of Sibelius, or
with Dorico SE or Dorico Elements.
