1. In a reservoir formation, the oil density is 53.8 lb/ft 3 with an underlying aquifer of density
62.4 lb /ft 3 .The capillary pressure measured at the oil water contact is 2.9 psi. Taking acceleration
due to gravity as a constant, Oil/water interfacial tension: 0.018 N/m, Contact angle: 35o find;
a) The distance between the free water level and oil-water contact.
2
b) Using a capillary function of Pc =3.11 ( 1−S w ) +0.12 ¯¿, find the water saturation at 65ft.
c) What is the largest pore throat in the system?
d) In oil and gas reservoirs, which one is adequate to assume FWL equal Fluid’s contact. Justify
your answer? ( 20 Marks )

2. A vertical well is producing single phase oil of viscosity 1.50cp from a vertical cylindrical region.
The well is in the center of the drainage volume. The pressure at the outer boundary is 1800 psia and
the wellbore pressure is 1750 psia. The pressures are assumed constant over time. The formation is
homogeneous with a permeability of 310 mD Formation thickness and outer boundary are assumed
to be 100 ft and 100 ft respectively. The diameter of the wellbore is 0.5 ft and the well is producing
evenly over the entire vertical column.

a. Find the flow rate from the well.

b. When the production starts, the flow rate turns out to be 867.26 bbl./day. Find the
mechanical skin factor for the well.
c. If the damaged zone around the well is cylindrical with a permeability of 180 mD,
determine the radius of the damaged zone.
d. Find the upscaled permeability for the drainage volume. ( 20 Marks )
