Q # 1: Explain the following stanza with reference to the
context.
And depart peace m pacified, and thankless
Into the burning bowls of this earth?
Was it cowardice that I degreed not talk to him?
Was it humanity, to feel so honored?
I felt so honored.
Ans: These lines have been taken from the poem Snake written by D H
Lawrence.
Context:
In this poem, the poet of describes his meeting with a snake. The snake
comes out of the hole of mud wall to drink water at the water
container which was lying under a Carob tree. The day was very hot and
the snake seemed to every thirsty. The poet also wanted to get water in
his pitcher. He was the snake drinking water at his water container.
Explanation:
In these lines, the poet tells us that he liked the snake. He must confess
it. He felt great pleasure to revive such a guest in his house. He felt joy
that snake had come to drink water at his water container. His silent
arrival and peaceful. He would leave his house quite satisfied. He would
depart without showing any gratitude to him. He did not want to kill
him. People might charge him with cowardice or consider him an
abnormal person for not killing the snake.
B: How does the poet (W. B Yeats) distinguish between “the
travel man “and “the Politics “in his poem, Politics.
Value of love:
in this poem ,the poet throws light on the power and influence of love
on human mind. He says that love is a powerful and all pervasive
experience of man’s life. Every other knowledge, skill and experience
pale into insignificance before the reality of love. Love is superior to
politics war travelling and education. The poet compares a lover with a
politician and a widely travelled person. In his view, the politician and a
traveller may possess sound knowledge on politics and other affairs of
life. They too give in before the influence of love.
Life of a traveller:
The poet looks at life from three different angles that of a lover, a
politician and a word traveller. A travelled man possesses great power
of observation. He visits different countries and knows much about the
life style of different nations. He is fully aware of the progress
achievement and socio-economic condition of different countries. His
arguments are loaded with his power of observation. Inspire of all his
knowledge, he is not superior to a lover. A lover givens more
importance to thrill of emotion than to the thought provoking activities
of life. Instead of taking part in the disputes and quarrels of politics, a
lover is lost into the charm and beauty of his beloved. He does not
become a nuisance to society.
A Politician:
A politician is a well-read person. He is highly educated and a thought
provoking person. He studies the political and economic condition of
the world with great interest. He studies the prosperity and adversity of
a nation dispassionately. He expresses his views on the possibility of
war and the destruction it will cause to the world. But he too is inferior
to a true love.
Q # 2: why is the play called something to talk about”?
Ans: introduction:
In the play “something to talk about” the playwright pilots tells us
about the life of a rich and cultured family of London called Sydney’s.
The Sydney’s lived in the countryside. The head of the family was lord
Rochester. He had a very limited and brief family. Lord Rochester lived
in his big house with his wife Sophie, a young daughter named lattice
and a young son named guy Sydney.
A trustworthily family:
The Sydney was peaceful and law-abiding people .they did not take part
in politics. They were sincere and truthful in the business of their daily
life. They did not believe in betraying or leg pulling of others. That is
way; they did not enter into politics. They did not take the profession of
law because they hated telling a lie.
Title of the play --- explained
Their only source of excitement was to attend marriage and funerals.
When the burglar wolf enters their house, Sydney guy welcomed his
and called him a mane in the wilderness. All the members of the family
came to see the burglar. They enjoyed his opening of the safe. They
were not worried about the loss of Christmas gifts of few thousands.

Ans: definition:
Kenneth walkers define vitamins as follows vitamins are certain
chemical elements necessary for health and growth of human body.
The chemical nature of the vitamins is not known.
Importance of vitamins:
Vitamins play a vital role in the development of our health. Health
cannot be maintained on a diet which is merely sufficient for the
growth and repair of our body only . it needs more than that . the
deficiency of certain minerals salts in human body causes deficiency
diseases.
Experiment about vitamins:
Sir F. Lowland Hopkins in 1906 found that rats kept on a diet of pure
proteins fats carbohydrates salts and water developed signs of
malnutrition.
His experiment confirmed that certain diseases were entirely due to the
absence of some essential ingredients of the food. These essential
ingredients are known to be vitamins.
The disease known as beriberi:
Another disease that is now known as beriberi takes place due to the
absence of an essential vitamin. It is disease characterized by weakness
and even complete paralysis of the legs.
According to the writer different food articles contain vitamins. For
example vitamin A is found in large quantity in cod liver oil carrot butter
and green vegetables .vitamin D is found in cod liver oil. it is also found
in small quantities in animals fats. Vitamin E is found in common food
stuffs such as leaves and seeding. The husk of wheat is also an
important source of vitamin E . Vitamin B is also found in yeast vitamin
C is also found in citrus fruits like lemon arid oranges.

Unemployment
Ans: A person who does not have a work to earn his livelihood is called
an unemployment person. Unemployment is a universal problem.
Everybody faces it. Even the developed countries like Britain and
America face it. Unemployment exists at two levels in our country.
Unemployment also exists among the educated people. This is very
dangerous in its results.
Thousands of person’s holdings master’s degrees are out of job. There
are numberless doctor’s engineers and scientists who have degrees in
their hands but they are unemployment. Even people with foreign
qualification wander aimlessly in search of jobs. There are many
thousands of unemployment laborers farm workers in villages and
workers in cities who are bread winners. Sometimes they do not get
work for days and weeks together.
The causes of the large scale unemployment are many. First our system
of education is defective. It does not fulfill our social and economic
needs. It animals at producing clerks and peons instead of technicians
and skillful workers. It needs scientist technical hands and skillful
workers.
Main Causes of Unemployment
The causes of this widespread evil are quite obvious and self-evident:
Firstly, our education system is surely defective. It is only
producing more and more clerks. As Pakistan is an advancing
country, it obviously needs skilled hands. A young man having
general and liberal education hates manual labor. Though education
is the responsibility of the government; the private sector has also
come on the front and things are getting better due to the
professional approach of the private institutions.
Secondly, Pakistan is not an industrial country. This is the reason
that we cannot absorb many of our educated young people in the
industry of the country. So we will have to expand our
industrialization by setting up more and more factories in order to
provide young people more and more job opportunities.
Thirdly, over-urbanization is one of the major causes of increasing
unemployment. Thousands of people from countryside and villages
are coming towards the big cities. in order to seek better job
opportunities and for the education of their children. This huge and
rapid migration has also made the situation worse than ever.
Q # 5: How is gossip different from rumor mongering and
slander discussed in the essay?
In this essay the writer given us the definition of gossip. She says that
gossip is a time wasting frivolity. It connects the members of society in
a frank manner. It has positive value. It tells us about the life style of
people. It throws light on their ways of dress, conversation traditions
and customs. It is quite different from rumor mongering.
Negative Qualities:
(1) Rumour mongering and slandering are negative things. They
aim at injuring the reputation or farm of a person without
reason,
(2) Slanders and rumours are not liked by anyone. They do not
have recreational value. Their main object is to find fault with
other people.
Sort of misinformation:
(3) Rumour is a sort of misinformation. It travels very fast it is
reports from one person from where the Rumour spreads is
not located. In a gossip the range is limited. It covers a limited
circle of friends. It ends as soon as the people leave the place.
(4) Slander is a false statement about someone. Its aim is to
damage the reputation of another person. It is often the result
of enmity and jealousy. In slander leg-pulling of someone is
interested.
The Object of Gossip:
(5) Gossip does not have such mean motives. It is idle talk. Its
aim is to waste some time. It is done is a non-serious and light
manner. We can say with writer that gossip is quite different
from slander and Rumour mongering
