My Philosophy of Education
Julia Troiano
My Classroom Environment:
In my classroom I would like all kids to know they are safe physically, mentally, and socially. Physically
I would like kids not to feel threatened by any student or feel unsafe about their surroundings. Mentally I would
like kids to feel like they can leave their problems at the door and walk in my classroom with a fresh mind
space ready to learn. Socially I feel that every student should treat one another with respect and no one should
feel like they don’t or can’t make friends in my class. I feel that without feeling safe in every way a student
won’t be able to successfully learn. We will play many getting to know you games so everyone feels
comfortable.
My Ideal Classroom:
My classroom would vary day to day depending on the unit. Sometimes I will have my desks in pairs or
in groups. Only for tests will I make students sit alone. I want my students to feel like they know where
everything is, if they need a color pencil or glue stick they should get up and get one. I want my kids to be
independent and get what they need. I will make my classroom bright and colorful. There won’t be a blank
space on the wall! I will have a spot for each and every student to keep a few of their occential materials for the
class like a text book or folder.
Student/Teacher Relationship:
I want my student to feel comfortable and able to ask me questions at all times without feeling people
will judge them. I want to have an appropriate relationship with each and every student. I want all my lessons
to be valuable and something they can apply to real life. I would like to be a trusted adult in their lives and
make a positive impact on them. I want to be a teacher they will remember and not dread coming to my class. I
will always reach out to not only my students but also their families. If a student is upset in my class I might
make them stay after and ask if they would like to talk. If they are crying during class I will let them go to the
restroom and get some water. I want all kids to feel accepted and comfortable with me.
Motivating My Students:
I realize all students might not enjoy the same things, but I want all kids to be excited for what they are
learning in my class. I want my lessons to be fun and interactive so students will learn easier. Some of the best
lessons I was ever taught I didn’t feel like I was learning. I want the lesson to be funny so they will remember it,
but also serious so they will learn it. I want to take my time and make sure every student understands before
moving to the next thing. I also think it is important for students to learn it, not just for the test, but to “own” the
information.
My Primary Goal:
At the end of the day I cannot make everyone like me, but I will certainly try. I think before learning can
happen you have to build a relationship with your students. Once you have that you can begin learning. My
overall goal is to make learning fun and retainable. I want my students to grow up and hear something I taught
and to remember my funny lesson or my rhyme to remember it. I want them to say “Mrs. Troiano taught me
that”. I want every student to pass my class and enjoy what they are doing. I want my students to talk about
how their teacher made learning fun and made a positive impact on their education.
