MODULE TITLE : CARRYING OUT MINOR VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND
SERVICING
MODULE DESCRIPTION: This module deals with the skills and knowledge and
attitudes required to carry out basic servicing and
maintenance of a light vehicle such as cleaning the vehicle. It
also includes the action to implement the vehicle
manufacturer’s specifications for routine checks and
maintenance and that the vehicle is operational to the
requirements of both the workplace and the relevant road
and traffic authority.
NOMINAL hours : 20 hours
PREREQUISITE : Performing Shop Maintenance
SUMMARY OF LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of this module, the trainee/student must be able to:

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
1. Vehicle is cleaned as per prescribed procedures using appropriate cleaning
supplies, tools/ equipment and according to occupational health and safety
(OHS).
2. Wastes are disposed of as per relevant ordinance, rules or law.

LO2. MAINTAIN AND SERVICE THE VEHICLE SYSTEM
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Minor routine checks are undertaken based on manufacturer's manual.
2. Minor routine repair and servicing are undertaken in accordance with
occupational health and safety procedures and manufacturer's manual.
3. Brakes are inspected and appropriate action is undertaken in accordance with
manufacturer's specifications.
4. Complex repair and service requirements are identified and referred following
workplace procedures.
5. Records of routine servicing, maintenance and repairs are kept and updated in
accordance with workplace procedures.
CONTENTS:
Parts of vehicle and its functions
Basic principles of operation of vehicle system such as electrical system, fuel
system, cooling system, steering system, exhaust system, tires and brakes.
Routine service and maintenance of light vehicle
Minor routine repair and servicing
Diagnosis of vehicle faults and irregularities and major repair and service
requirements.
Housekeeping
Writing and documenting service and maintenance reports
Care and use of tools for routine maintenance and servicing
