Introduction to Community Engagement, Solidarity and


Citizenship
Learning Objectives:

• Understand the definitions of community, community engagement, solidarity and


citizenship
• Integrate the lessons learned from previous specialized and applied subjects with the
concepts of CESC

Discussion

• COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – refers to the process of working collaboratively with and through
groups of people affiliated by geographic proximity, special interest, or similar situations to
address issues affecting the wellbeing of those people concerned.

• SOLIDARITY – refers to the climate of a community where people observe unity among members
based on their common responsibilities, objectives and goals as a group.

• CITIZENSHIP – refers to the rights of a person acquired by being affiliated or connected to a


particular community. He or she is entitled to practice common responsibilities, decisions, and
actions being recognized as a part or member of a certain community.

Activity

With the lessons learned from previous specialized and applied subjects, you are expected to
accomplish the following tasks in a 1 whole piece of yellow paper:

• Define, in your own words, the concept of a) Community Engagement, b) Solidarity, and
c) Citizenship. 5 pts each – 15 pts
• Explain one application of the importance of CESC as a subject. (Content substance – 5
pts, Applied example – 5 pts,10 pts)

CRITERIA FOR SCORING:


Content - 3 points
Sentence Structure/Grammar – 2 points
