Generationext: Nature and Nurture
One of the fulfilling features of life is the bringing up of children.
This is a real test of any self-analysis of one’s success. All of us
leave the mortal coil one day, but, we live, in a way, through our
children and their children.
I am benefited greatly my predecessors, especially my parents who
taught me good values for life, some others I learnt by watching
them. Can I inculcate similar values in my children in these
turbulent times? More importantly, could I practice what I preach
to them. I think I did to a great extent; perhaps only they could tell
if and when I transcended my principles.
I strongly believe man is a product of both nature and nurture.
Nature comes from genes, once for all but nurture comes over a
period of time through parents, first and foremost and interaction
with surroundings. T a given point of time, it is difficult to pinpoint
the interrelationship between the two.
In the eldest of my children I could see certain quest for truth,
respect for others and family values, definitely valuable qualities in
these times of strife. He will carry mantle further with dignity and
honor, I am glad to observe. He will become the invisible as a
member in a string of pearls and will be continue to be in the string
of the best ancestral traditions for which all of us are only trustees!
His two siblings definitely exhibit certain traditional values, but it
looks like they are mode modern in outlook.
I am looking forward to the next generation, that is, grandchildren
to give me inputs to put forward my hypothesis.
