Communication Skills II

I. Course Code: ENG 123

II. Course Description:

This course ENG 123 – Communication Arts II is designed to enhance students’


ability to write down their ideas with ease and confidence. It aims to develop effective
composition writing skills which require critical thinking and reading.

III. Credit Units: 3 units

IV. Pre-requisite: ENG 113

V. Objectives:

A. General Objectives

At the end of the course, the students are expected to :

1. construct sentence effectively;


2. develop proficiency of communication skills in the transmission of ideas
through writing;
3. develop moral responsibility (in imparting information) as both speaker and
writer; and
4. gain self-confidence in presenting any writing composition.

B. Specific Objectives

For the first half of the semester:

1. reduce or eliminate wordiness in writing;


2. avoid structural flaws in sentence like misplaced modifier;
3. develop meaningful sentences through coherence, unity, and proper
organization of ideas;
4. construct sentences without redundancy;
5. correct faulty parallelism.
6. compose sentences according to grammatical structure

For the second half of the semester:

1. write a clear topic sentence to achieve unity in a paragraph;


2. write different paragraph development;
3. write an effective introduction, body and conclusion;
4. write different kind s of writing composition.
