Ltd. From the Management perspective”. While preparing this report, we tried to follow your

Abstract
This report is framed to grasp the managerial issues of Beximco Pharmaceutical Limited
(BPL), a leading Bangladeshi pharmaceutical company that produces various
pharmaceutical products. The main purpose of the report is to study different functions and
strategies of BPL, how they came up as a factor of pharmaceutical sector in Bangladesh,
the operational process, their future goals, their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threats and several things from the management perspective.

1. Organizational background
1.1 Introduction
Beximco Pharmaceutical Limited (BPL) is a recorded company with the Bangladesh
Exchange, one of the best positioning Pharmaceutical Company which has been engaged in
manufacturing, marketing and distribution of Pharmaceutical products. BPL was founded
was founded in the 1970's by two brothers – Ahmed Sohail Fasiur Rahman and Salman
Fazlur Rahman. Today BPL manufactures and markets its own `branded generics’ for
almost all disease ranking from AIDS to cancer, from infection to asthma, from
hypertension to diabetes, both nationally and internationally. They are committed to
excellence by setting high standards of quality and safety of their products.
1.2 Mission
Their mission is, each of their activities must be benefit and add value to the common
wealth of our society.
1.3 Vision
The vision of BPL is the well-being of the personnel, society and building presence across
the global.
1.4 Goal
BPL main goal is to do business internationally and to get the attention of the global market
with a positive picture of their brand and maintain the balance of the returns of the
shareholders and help them to have more financial benefits.

2. SWOT analysis
2.1 Strength
The BPL is one of the leading pharmaceutical company for manufacturing work class and top quality
Pharmaceutical products in Bangladesh. “Man power" is one of the greatest strengths for the
company. They believe in the philosophy of "People are our prime asset". The company has more
than seven thousand full time, trained, skilled and qualified employees such as pharmacists, chemists,
doctors, scientists, engineers, accountants and business administration graduates working at the
organization. Good product quality represents strong site of strength for any pharmaceutical company.
They seem to attend that strength. Their manufacturing process, test methods, cleaning process and
continuous improvement practice ensure superior product quality. The Company maintains a
sustainable business and financial performance till date.
2.2 Weaknesses
The cycle of cash conversion is a long process which can be indicated as a
weakness for the company. From producing the products to selling the
products, it’s a long process that conserve cash. Is selling and distribution is
increasing, expense is also increasing. The BPL is trying to adjust their
distribution cost as demand is increasing. BPL is facing heavy competition
from other established Pharmaceutical companies available in the market
Disease pattern of human plays an important role in the pharmaceutical
business. But this pattern can be changed due to genetic diversity which can
cause a great amount of loss to the company.
2.3 Opportunities
To gain competitive edge the company decided to increase their understanding of
customers need and offer services that will be unmatched in the industry. If they can
increase the number of health conscious consumers, it can be turned into a great
opportunity for them.

2.4 Threats
There are a lot of pharmaceutical companies in the industry. So it's a very competitive
market. The company may face crisis of raw material as local sources are very limited.
Change in the government policy and regulation may also indicate a threat for them.
Maintaining International standard is also a challenging matter because for once if the
reputation down hard task to revive it.
3. Manager’s background
Mr. Wasim Haider. Manager, International Marketing at Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Mostly he is in charge of Beximco’s international business in Africa and Middle East
region. As a marketing manager in Beximco started his journey January 2016- present.
Back than he was the Deputy Manager, international marketing of beximco for 3 years. He
had completed his BBA and MBA from University of Dhaka.
As a international marketing manager in the BPL, He mainly focused on ‘Developing
Beximco’s Business in overseas countries’. He is using to play strategic roles to his
employees with Strategic alliance. The main purpose as a marketing manager, he ensures
monthly and yearly sales target through proper communication and marketing support.
4. Managerial Role
As a manager he would like to perform Interpersonal, Informational and Decisional role for
BPL. Kind of Role he perform is given below:
4.1 Interpersonal
As a director, he would like to work as a ‘Figurehead’. He have social, stylized and lawful
obligations.

4.2 Informational
As a director, he would like to choose to work as a ‘Spokesman’. Manager speaks to and
represent their association.
4.3 Decisional
As a director, he would like to prefer to work as a ‘Negotiator’. He may be expected to
partake in, and immediate, imperative transactions inside your group, office, or association.
5. External Environment
The external environment is the indirectly interactive forces. In a way external powers may
affect BPL organization more than another just due to the idea of a specific business.
The BPL environment affect by sociocultural. That is particularly vital on the grounds that
it decides the merchandise, administrations, and guidelines that society esteems.
In the Demographics BPL measures of the different qualities of the general population and
social gatherings who make up a general public.
Political gatherings make or impact laws performing on any new project. Assessment
arrangements, exchange controls, and the lowest pay permitted by law enactment are only a
couple of cases of political and lawful issues that may influence BPL’s activities.
BPL have faced monetary measurement reflects overall money related conditions. Certain

BPL helps Rohinga refuges with free medical camp at Balukhali of Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar.
Camps for providing healthcare services including medicines and doctors and distributed
large quantities of clothes, baby foods, and other essentials to the Rohingya families.

7. Beximco Pharma Ltd.’s Organogram:
COO (chief of operating officer) and CFO (Chief of financial officer) are doing work under
MD. Marketing & communication and Factory wing and controlled by COO. The two
different sector MKT & COM and Factory wing work differently. Under MKT department
Director commercial and director of IMT and others. And factory side shows the huge
amount of employees all are controlled by wing. CFO (Chief financial officer) works
separately from everyone. ED, A&F work under CFO. There are approx. 25 people who
are MD (managing director) control the whole organogram.
8. Facing problem and Making decision by Manager
When the manager of the BPL explained about the issue he mentioned that in the real
world, most problem don’t come with neon signs flashing “problem”. What a manager
thinks that a problem another manager may not be think that it might not be problem. So
it’s really hard to effectively identify what is actually the problem or not but solve them
when they occured.

Achieving a stretch goal:
As a manager he is in charge of international marketing — whether it's playing out a
business procedure, supporting some other association, building up another item, or getting
new clients. He will need to motivate people, remove the barriers from his way, and
concentrate his employees on the things that are generally essential.
Hiring the right people:
Sometimes used unconventional interviewing techniques. He have done the traditional
interview, but then he have tried some things like, how the interviewee will perform in an
actual work situation. Getting feedback from the current employee. That made a big
difference in their choice for some potential new hires. And the process also increased
acceptance rate for job offers right place to the right people.
Bringing out the best in Employees:
Treat employees respectfully, it’s the first condition to do work dealing with employees.
Praise or criticize employee personally. Help to achieving their goals.. BPL is the large
companies in Bangladesh. And it’s always try to ensure that make a proper working
environment for the worker, that people can feel comfortable to do their job.
Dealing with the underperforming employees:
Some employees may fail in work for their personal problems. Technically it’s not
manager’s problem, but in reality any issue that contributes to an underperforming
employee is manager problem. Manager need to help employees cope with personal issues,
he can provide motivation and counsel, maybe steer them to appropriate resources inside or
outside your company.
Responding problem:
As a pharmaceutical organization they always want to explore all over the world and for
this they maintain the Audit policy. But sometimes things do not happened properly and
they have been waiting for several years to respond to enter the foreign market. In the
meantime what they have faced they try to solve those problem with their current situation.

Continuous Improvement:
Regardless of how great BPL organization gets, it can improve the situation. There's
constantly some sort of change that can be made: an adjustment in a procedure, a superior
workplace, better representative inspiration, more spotlight on the basics.
9. Span of Control
Wasim Haidar as a manager of International marketing, he and his team work for
international business in Africa and Middle East region. He is the First line manager of
IMT. He is supervised by Dir. Of IMT and Dir. Of IMT is supervised by Dir. Of MKT &
COM.It is mostly like ‘Long Span of control’. 1 Dir. Of MKT & COM, 2 Dir. Of IMT, 4
first line manager are supervised them and under 4 there are 20 employee in this sector.
10. Plans of BPL
Strategic Plan
In BPL Management teams have established a clear strategic plan that will further
strengthen the in Bangladesh and over the world. BPL plans to use its market position and
worldwide scale, profit by the residential development opportunity and specifically seek
after universal open doors for going ahead.
Short term Plan
BPL organization have always faced new types of issues and for that they need to make
some quick decision that help to solve temporary problems, like few years ago factory
works wanted to rise their wages and they solved the problem within one month.
Long term plan
As enormous company it performed international region. Sometimes it takes longer period
to enter foreign market. As e.g. they had waited for 10 years to enter US market. In the
mean time they process the work and so on.
11. Decision making System of BPL
BPL have a large organizational structure. Lots of people with lots of manager manage the
whole industry. In decision making policy BPL always try to make sure that, organization

can achieve their proper goals and policy. For achieving this goal and plans they need the
support of every employee as always. So they believe in ‘Employee Empowerment’. BPL
have followed the ‘Decentralization’ to make their decision.
BPL is forward-thinking organizations. A decentralized hierarchical structure permits
speedier basic leadership and better versatility to neighborhood conditions and setting. In
BPL empowers an association to better adjust to conditions by designating specialist to the
individuals who are physically present and dynamic in a specific venture or activity.
12. Growth strategy of BPL
BPL Company focusing on primary line of business, increase number of product and
explore their business whole over the world. In primary line, they focus on how to improve
medicine pattern for new disease. Currently, they are performing in the market with
50,000+ product and they have been thinking to increase that number. Another issue about
go global it’s indicate the main growth as a pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. They
were the first company who delivered entered the foreign market with quality full product
and still they performing so well.
13. HRM Process of BPL
The man power of the skilled and committed employees, and their collective remedy to
excel have constantly guided BPL towards more recent achievements and set a route for the
intense destiny. In BPL number of employs grater that three thousand professionals which
encompass medical doctors, pharmacist, chemist, microbiologists, engineers, MBAs
amongst others. Through their man power, they are constantly working to create a global
magnificence surrounding where in goals and aspirations of the employees are intertwined
with company’s achievements.

13.1 Planning And Requisition
Making proper arrangements is the center and base obligation of all elements of
administration. Planning process assesses the human asset of the association, its present
position and the future structure.
BPL has their own making arrangements. They ordinarily estimate their workers in light of
their new activities, challenges, vital objectives, targets, mechanical and different changes
inside or outside the association guaranteeing in quickened productiveness.
13.2. Selection Process:
Selection is the method of collecting data for the motive of evaluating and deciding who
should be hired for the particular position. BPL follows several steps to complete its
selection process- they are screening the CV, written test, Interview, employment decision,
pre-employment medical checkup, offer letter.
13.3 Orientation process:
Orientation programs are very important process done by the HRM. After joining the new
employees have to attend the orientation program arranged by the HRM of BPL. With the
help of this process the new employees can have a better understanding about the office
environments, corporate norms of the work place, office culture, workplace behavior and
so on.

13.4 Training:
Their training program is designed mainly in two types, such as:
I. Functional Training: Employees from each department like HR department, Marketing
department, R&D, Production department are given training on specific needs according to
their departmental job after the need identification.
II. Behavioral Training: these are soft skill training such as communication skills,
etiquettes, cultural norms, anger management, and so on. This type of training is for every
employee of BPL not like department wise.
13.5 Appraisal and Evaluation:
Performance Appraisal in BPL is done yearly basis depending on the performance rating as
quantitative data analysis in numeric form. However it begins with the joining of the
employees. That means after joining the employees are in the probationer period for the
first six months. After six months their performances are evaluated.
13.6 Compensation and Benefit:
Compensation is something that motivates the employees to work harder for further
achievements. It can be money, goods, and services, offered to the personnel and
employees from the company. In BPL, Compensation is set after the yearly performance
appraisal and evaluation.
14. Control used by BPL
BPL Company have been perform financial control. The organization which has a
tremendous brand value but whenever they are thinking about new project and so on they
focused on mostly finance sector with every issues.
They are focused on significant investment, unnecessary expanse whether they are trying to
acquire more attention from the world they may invest in poor country instead they invest
in rich country. they focused acquire the brand value with financial control.

15. Leadership perform by manager of BPL
The ‘Transformational leadership’ is mostly followed by our manager. In here, he played a
vital role to inspire their followers to go beyond their own self-interests. In BPL every
peoples have right to do anything follow certain rules. They believe, people can come up
with some new ideas that can be advantage for the company or something like that.
Employees who work here they don’t see it as a office, rather they see it as their own place.
Only the transformational leadership style that makes a communicable environment among
the organization.
16. Pros and Cons perform by manager
Pros cons how manger control his organization. In BPL manager are performed coaching
management, they cultivating their followers as talent and skill basis. Act like coaching that break
down role, task or skill into parts, and workers with each other this is how they improve themselves.
Sometimes they have performing project work and then they are used to participative management
policy where they work like a team for specific purpose and exchange their ideas.
17. Overall conclusion
In Bangladesh the pharmaceutical industry is one of the fastest growing sector and Beximco
Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL) is a big name to call, which has a great contribution towards its
economy. It has the huge reputation in the business industries nationally and internationally. For this
all the management teams are working relentlessly.
During this report we have learned a lot of things of managerial perspective. We know that how
enormous brand work in market with high reputation compete against with competitors and how they
maintain internal and external issues. It’s our heartiest pleasure to make a report about management
