Select the relevant
full-wave solver
2
Select Simulation Settings for the Full Array
This option uses the
combined results template to

reconstruct the array farfields
from the element farfields in a
post-processing step
3
Sequential Excitation of All Elements
© Dassault Systèmes | 23-Jul-20 | ref.: 3DS_Document_2020
When running the solver all
ports are now sequentially
excited to produce the
embedded element patterns
4
Combine All Element Patterns
© Dassault Systèmes | 23-Jul-20 | ref.: 3DS_Document_2020
Patterns are combined with complex
excitation values in a post-processing
template. This is very useful when the
number of scan angles / excitation lists is
larger than the number of active ports
5
Parameter Sweep over Scan Angles
Selecting this option means that only

the result templates will be executed
with every parameter set.
6
Define Farfield Cuts Note that only 1D results are recorded and available in the
Result Navigator after a parameter sweep. Use Farfield
Cuts or result templates to record the farfield data.

* Note that the excitation annotation “comb-am-ph” refers to the combined
results template where the full array farfields are reconstructed.

Note on Excitation Parameters
The excitations in the array task can be defined by either selecting a pattern for the amplitude taper, or by
importing a complete TSV file where both the amplitude and phase values are specified. This excitation
list is fixed for all full arrays created from this task. In order to access these values the option Parametric
can be selected in the Array Excitation Pattern dialog. This will create amplitude and phase parameters

(PAA*_am_* and PAA*_ph_*) for each element in the array.
An additional phase distribution is applied on top of this fixed distribution when the Phase for Scanning
is activated in the excitation properties during the creation of a full array simulation project. In this project
the parameters PAA_FA_SCANTHETA and PAA_FA_SCANPHI are created and used to calculate the
phase shifts for each element that would force the main beam of an array to scan into the particular
direction of these spherical coordinates. This is available for both rectangular and triangular periodic
lattices.
