First, I listen music from YouTube and then download it on my
phone so I’ll be having an ease in hearing my favorite music.
2. What is globalization? How would you define globalization?
For me, Globalization is the word used to describe the
growing interdependence of the world’s economies, cultures, and populations,
brought about by cross-border trade in goods and services, technology, and
flows of investment, people, and information.
Activity2
In your own idea/understanding answer the following questions.
1. What do you think is the importance of defining globalization?
The importance of defining globalization is that it gives us
an advanced knowledge of what globalization is and
helps us to be aware on what is happening around the
world in terms of the economy and the status of every
country.
2. How have you experienced globalization?
I experienced globalization by simply buying products in the
markets or any store which has contributed to our economy.
PRACTICE TASK/ASSESSMENT
What metaphors are you going to use in order to improve your own
definition of globalization? Enumerate at least three and explain one
of them.
Globalization means developing international influences. When we
influence, it means we combine our economic forces with others to be more
powerful. Globalization is a fast and strong wifi connection. It connects people
and technology together for faster transactions. Globalization acts the same
reason. Globalization is creating an empire. It is like networking in multilevel
marketing. You reach out to people, you go out of your way to expand your reach
and connection. Globalization is like a family and the differences create
opportunity to resolve and integrate. Globalization is the same, people and
different countries interact to create alliances and better services.
ASSIGNMENT
Reflection or Insights
Do you agree with the idea that the contemporary world is characterized by
high liquidity? Why or why not?
Yes, I agree that the modern economic world can be characterized
by liquidity. Our contemporary world is based on manufacturing, marketing,
selling and buying of products both useful and not. How quickly our finances
grow in order for us to acquire the things we like is important and seems to now
determine our well being as a culture. This where liquidity enters, each unit in
society would have to be considered liquid to be financially safe.
LESSON 2-Globalization Theory
LEARNING ACTIVITIES/EXERCISES
Activity 1
Answer the following question:
How do you describe the reactions of some religious movements to
globalization? How do others facilitate globalization?
Nonetheless, the relationship between globalization and religion is
one with new possibilities and furthering challenges. On the one hand, while
religion takes advantage of communication and transportation technology, it is at
the same time the source of globalization’s greatest resistance by acting as a
haven for those standing in opposition to its power. On the other hand, because
globalization allows for daily contact, religion enters a circle of conflict in which
religions become “more self-conscious of themselves as being world religions.”
Globalization is getting increasingly bad press in the West nowadays. Populist
movements allege that it does not benefit the average citizen very much, if at all.
Instead, they tout protectionism and unilateralism. National policies, whether with
respect to trade or financial regulation, are seen as the surest way to restore
national greatness.
Activity 2
Students will be asked to write 500 word essays answering this question:
How is the nation affected by globalization? Do this concepts remain
relevant? Why/Why not?
The effects of globalization can be seen until today as the world’s
economy continues to grow. The role of the nation-state in globalization is a
complex one in part due to the varying definitions and shifting concepts of
globalization. While it has been defined in many ways, globalization is generally
recognized as the fading or complete disappearance of economic, social, and
cultural borders between nation-states. Some scholars have theorized that
nation-states, which are inherently divided by physical and economic boundaries,
will be less relevant in a globalized world. While increasingly reduced barriers
regarding international commerce and communication are sometimes seen as a
potential threat to nation-states, these trends have existed throughout history. Air
and sea transportation that made same-day travel to other continents possible
and greatly expanded trade among countries did not abolish the sovereignty of
individual nations. Instead, globalization is a force that changed the way nation-
states deal with one another, particularly in the area of international commerce.
One commonly recognized effect of globalization is that it favors Westernization,
meaning that other nation-states are at a disadvantage when dealing with the
Americas and Europe. This is particularly true in the agricultural industry, in
which second- and third-world nations face competition from Western
companies. Another potential effect is that nation-states are forced to examine
their economic policies in light of the many challenges and opportunities that
multinational corporations and other entities of international commerce present.
Multinational corporations, in particular, challenge nation-states to confront the
unique issue of foreign direct investments, forcing nation-states to determine how
much international influence they allow in their economies. Globalization also
creates a sense of interdependence among nations, which could create an
imbalance of power among nations of different economic strengths. The role of
the nation-state in a global world is largely a regulatory one as the chief factor in
global interdependence. While the domestic role of the nation-state remains
largely unchanged, states that were previously isolated are now forced to engage
with one another to set international commerce policies. Through various
economic imbalances, these interactions may lead to diminished roles for some
states and exalted roles for others.
PRACTICE TASK/ASSESSMENT
Which of the aforementioned views on the history of globalization you find
most appealing? Why?
One of the aforementioned views on the history of
globalization I find most appealing is the cultural differentialism. This is because
I am curious as to how the different sets of cultures are being affected by this
globalization and how can one adapt globalization with regards to their culture.
