DIY Hyperloop
by 2317889c
In this project, you will design engineer, build and test of Art to the University of Glasgow - approx 1.6km.
a vehicle that has been inspired by the Hyperloop Since we are working at scale, passengers will be

to power your vehicle, and we won't be working at full obviously don't want you to be cracked upon arrival!
scale! However, we are looking at the concept of a
Hyperloop track that would run from Glasgow School

Approximately scale 1:28, a pipe which is 60m long,
and has an internal diameter of approx 80mm https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-850m.

EDF, LiPo, ESC, RC receiver and transmitter,
electrical wire, soldering iron, solder, heat-shrink, pipe https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-inch-Lengths-5mm-to-.
(optional), 3D printer, nuts, bolts, metal components ..
(see diagram for eng drawings), servo, m6 threaded
bolt, sponge, egg box, tape, EMA Plastic Weld Glue, Passengers

Step 2: Development and 3D Printing
After viewing (and possibly developing) the given Autodesk Fusion 360 CAD models print the following:
1. head of main body
2. braking mechanism
3. joining couple
4. centre of main body (a alternative would be milling a pipe of similar dimensions)

Step 3: Constructing the Foam Model
1. hollow out and split sponge
2. cut out the compartments of the egg box
3. assemble with glue as shown above
4. insert eggs
5. tape together the sections
DIY Hyperloop: Page 5
Step 4: Assembly
1. assemble the braking mechanism (as instructed by the diagrams above)
2. glue the EDF to the the head of the main body (as shown above)
3. glue the rear to the main body (as shown above)
4. glue the joining couple to both the head and centre of the main body
5. solder and heat shrink the EDF to the ESC, ESC to the RC receiver connector, and ESC to LiPo
connector
DIY Hyperloop: Page 6
Step 5: Assembly of Track
connect the 80mm diameter pipe, into a 60m long straight track, temporarily blocking off both ends
DIY Hyperloop: Page 7
Step 6: RACE!
After trailing the breaking mechanism and EDF without incident you are ready to race your hyperloop down the
pipe, connect the soldered connections to their respective component, insert the main sponge capsule, place it in
the tube and use the RC transmitter to power your carriage down the track!

This is so cool!
Was this done for an engineering class, or . . ? Very curious to know where you get to do this kind
of project! : )
Thanks! Well yes sort of, me and my group are 2nd year product design engineering students at
Glasgow university and Glasgow school of art. If you are interested in seeing more of the projects
that we do I have a folio page https://www.facebook.com/Eoghan-Condie-Creative-Works-
1128169107304493/ where I post most of the work we do (I am going to update it with work we did
this year asap). Hope this helps :)
