Instruction: Answer the following problems with dignity. Make sure to identify
the givens and required of the problem. Show your step-by-step solution. Write
your solution in a clean A4 bond paper.
1. A dry cell of internal resistance of 0.0624 ohms when short circuited will
furnish a current of 25A. what is the EMF?
2. A load of 10 ohms was connected to a 12V battery. The current drawn was
1.18A. What is the internal resistance of the battery?
3. A 200V lam has a hot resistance of 400 ohms. What is the power rating of
the lamp?
4. An electric motor draws a mechanical load taking 18.8A from a 230V source.
Calculate the power input of the motor.
5. A motor has a rating of 4hp. Determine the power in kW? Ans. 2.984Hp
20. Convert the following measurement: a. 7.5kW to hp b. 3/4Hp to watts
6. A 10hp motor runs at rated load for 5hrs. How many kwH is consumed?
7. A residential house has a lighting load of 1000W and a small appliance load
of 2000W. If they are used at the same time, what will be the monthly bill
at an energy cost of 5 pesos per kwh?
8. A heater draws 2A at 12V DC. How many Joules does it consume in 15
minutes?
9. An electric iron draws 2.5A at 230V. Determine its resistance? Ans. 92 Ohms
10. A 100-volt lamp has a lot resistance of 250 ohms. Solve the kWh of energy
it will consume after 12 hours of using it.
11. A 3, 5 and 4 ohms resistors are connected in series across a battery. If the
voltage drops across the 3 ohms resistor is 6V, find the total battery
voltage.
12. If the current drawn by a 7 ohms load across a 12V battery is 1.6A, solve
the internal resistance of the battery.
13. Three resistors R1=2Ω, R2= 3Ω and R3 Ω are connected in parallel. The
current drawn by R3 is 2A. If the equivalent resistance of the parallel
resistors is 1 ohm, what is the total current drawn by these three resistors?
14. Determine the electric current that flows in the circuit as shown in the figure
below.
