My Takeaway/Insight from the Seminar:
In this new normal, the challenge of transitioning FAITH FORMATION to technology-
based platforms can be daunting and even beyond our comfort zone. Creativity, content and
resources must receive prioritized attention as we continue to reinvent our academic teaching
strategies and approaches to faith formation of our pupils. Aside from developing new strategies,
we must carefully consider about some of the good things we are already doing and start from
there. The Swedish proverb reminds us, “Do not throw away the old bucket until you know the
new one holds water”. Face-to-face continues to be the ideal but let us face the facts. Although
education can be done remotely, Catholic schools are really about community interaction. No
amount of digital interaction can replicate the direct teacher-student relationship. It should be
clear to every student that “We spare no effort to make young people feel that their faith is
relevant and their educators are giving their best to nurture and remind them that they are loved
and being sustained by God.”
Today’s pandemic situation speaks to educators to help students build “persistence” and
“grit”. “It is our job to be patient and to be more understanding of each other. To create a culture
where struggle and possible failure is part of the process. As educators, we know that it is not
the adversity itself that leads to our students’ growth – it is how they respond to it. When
properly motivated, students will value and embrace adversity because failure is always part of
the process of growth. The pandemic has brought us good and bad, triumph and suffering. Our
world is far from ideal. None of us can avoid this. It is important to learn how to bear suffering.
Obstacles will continue to exist for our students as it has for us. what we can do is to adapt.
Adapt school programs teaching strategies and our methods of classroom organization as
vehicles to respond to the new challenges.
Reflection (My own plan of implementing my learning to my area of responsibility.):
I believe that faith grows when an active community exists. This happens when teachers
make intentional efforts to foster relationships in an online class until a level of trust emerges
that allows a deeper community of faith to emerge. Teachers needs to design topics and class
works that emphasizes the importance of requiring participation in class discussions, because if
discussion questions are crafted appropriately students are enabled to interact in a manner that is
conducive to the establishment and fostering a community of faith. The school holds faith
formation as an equally important value in the overall education of a person. Hence, the
programs always reflect and foster the values that this institution uphold. The school put strong
emphasis on not only enhancing the students’ knowledge and understanding of the sciences and
the arts but also of religion. There is also an emphasis on the formation of a good conscience and
moral character and the teaching of skills necessary to lead a moral and wholesome life.
