What is Software?

 The
general name given to all the programs (and
data) that computers use to perform different tasks.
 Programs
are sets of instructions that tell the
computer what to do.

 Software = programs = instructions for the computer


Software Found on Most Computers

 Operating system
 Web browser
 Antivirus software
 Productivity tools
Operating System
 An operating system (OS) is the program that lets
you interact with your computer.
 It manages the operations of the computer.

 Without the OS the computer cannot function.

Web Browser
 A web browser (or browser) is software for accessing
information on the world wide web (www or web).
 The web is the collection of websites and webpages
stored on computers which are connected to the
internet.
