Unit 1 Notes

Basic Sklls

Microsoft Windows

In this course, we will be using the Microsoft Windows operating system and software
that works with it to get hands–on experience with the concepts introduced in each
unit.

Microsoft has released many versions of its popular Windows operating system. These
versions of Windows are sufficiently similar from the user’s point of view that it is not
necessary for everyone in the course to use the same one. The course notes are
designed to be as neutral as possible about the different Windows versions, but if you
are having trouble relating any instructions to your version, feel free to contact your
instructor for more specific advice or post in the Questions Forum.

Windows Tours and Help Files

Some editions of Windows come with a tour to introduce new users to the operating
system, and may have help files on many topics.

If you are new to Windows, look under the Start Menu in the lower-left corner of
your screen for these resources. If you have trouble finding them, post a question in
the course forums. Remember to mention which version of Windows you are using.
The latest Windows Operating System is Windows 11.

Note: The latest update of Windows 10 known as 21H1 that was released on 18 May
2021.
