GURUKUL THE SCHOOL

HOLIDAY HOMEWORK
CLASS – V
1) MAP WORK :

Paste the political map of India on half side of the A3 sheet. Number and name the
states and the Union Territories. On the other side of the sheet write tables from 12 to
20. Get it laminated.

2) LET’S SWITCH TO ZERO WASTE

Some waste is biodegradable, which means that it rots away fairly quickly. Food scraps,
garden waste and paper are all biodegradables. To understand it, make a pit and put the
following waste from your house into it. Mix the waste well with the soil and overturn
the soil every three days and compost the following in 15 days.
 Fruit & vegetable peelings
 Tea bags and tea leaves
 Cardboard (e.g. toilet roll tubes)
 Paper bags and paper towels
 Small pieces of paper

Suggestion: If you do not have an open land to put the waste into the soil, then you can
use a big pot with soil in it for the same activity.

Precaution: Do not put too much waste into the soil, it should be in proportion to the
soil.
Take pictures and make a project of the same in your scrap file, writing the procedure
and filling the table given below. Mentioning which one degraded fastest and which one
took longest to degrade. Also bring the compost in a pouch to the school to show it to
your classmates.

Fill in the following table based on your experiment.(to be done in scrap file).
