Host: Good morning, everyone. To our honorable President of the Philippines Mr.
Leonard Evangelista, to the chairman of National Commission for Culture and the Arts
Mr. Mark Anthony Gonzales and to all the artist who are here today. Welcome to Gawad
sa Manlilikha ng Bayan Awarding. Ngayon makikilala natin ang mga bagong national
artist ng Pilipinas. Bago magsimula ang lahat nais ko munang tawagin para sa
pambungad na panimula ang ating mahal na pangulo. Ladies and Gentlemen President
Leonard Evangelista.
Leonard: Good morning, everyone. I am really grateful to all the artists who are in front
of us today. You have helped a lot in the culture and identity of our country. Also, thanks
to Chairman Gonzales for being part of this day. I salute you all, our national artist.
Thank you and Congratulations.
Host: Thank you Mr. President.
Host: And now for our awarding ceremony we will start it with Mr. Teofilo Garcia. He is
Tabungaw maker from Abra. Kilala siya sa kanyang likhang tabungaw o sombrero na
gawa sa pinatuyong upo. Itinanghal siya bilang manlilikha ng bayan noong 2012.
Christian: Hello, everyone. I am Teofilo Garcia known as the tabungaw hat maker of
San Quintin, Abra.
Host: Thank you Mr. Garcia and for our second awardee we have Ms. Ambalang
Ausulin. She is a weaver of Yakan Textiles. She is known for her excellent skills in
Yakan weaving techniques and designs. Itinanhal siya bilang manlilikha ng bayan
noong 2016.
Aicie: Hello, everyone. I am Ambalang Ausulin. I am a weaver from city of Lmitan,
Basilan. Yakan is the majority Muslim group in basilan, we are known for our skills in
weaving with colorful fabrics and geometric patterns.
Host: Thank you very much Ms. Ausulin. For our third awardee we have Mrs. Estelita
Bantilan. She is a Mat Weaver from Malapatan, Saranggani Province. She is known for
weaving intricate mats using a pandan variety called romblon. Itinanghal siya bilang
manlilikha ng bayan noong 2016.
Andria: Good morning, everyone. I am Estelita Bantilan. A B’laan mat weaver and
known for the nickname “Princess”. The traditional banig or mat weaving reveals the
colors and tradition of the B’laan indigenous people.
Host: Thank you Ms. Bantilan for your contribution to the Philippines arts. And for our
last awardee we have Ms. Yabing Masalon Dulo. She is known for being ikat weaver. A
filipino textile weaver and dyer, credited with the blaan traditional mabal tabih art of ikat
weaving and dyeing. Itinanghal siya bilang manlilikha ng bayan noong 2016.
Lesly: Hello, everyone. I am Yabing Masalon Dulo commonly referred to as Fu Yabing.
I am born in Blaan village in landan. Mabal Tabih or ikat weaving. Mabal is the Blaan
term for the abaca weaving process. Tabih is the term for the finished hand-woven cloth
and it also refers to the traditional Blaan tubular skirt. Natural dyes from endemic plant
species in the community are the source of colors for different designs of this
indigenous textile.
Host: Thank you Ms. Fu Yabing. And now our new national artists let us give them a
round of applause. And for our closing message we have Mr. Gonzales.
Anthony: Congratulations to our new national artists. I deeply appreciated your
contribution to our country. Thank you for your efforts, you are making us proud. That’s
