H.M.S. Ark Royal Wreck Discovery

1) In November 1941, the British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat in the Mediterranean sea, dealing a major blow to the British navy. 2) In October 2002, the wreck of the Ark Royal was discovered on the seafloor by a survey team using the HUGIN 3000 AUV nearly 61 years after it sank. 3) The AUV survey confirmed the wreck was indeed the Ark Royal through high-resolution sonar imaging of the debris field matching the carrier's dimensions and orientation on the seafloor.

destruction was a devastating blow to the Royal Navy's

morale of the British people. In October 2002, nearly sixty-
