Greetings to everyone. Tori-Ann O'Connor is my name.
I'm here today to talk about
technology. Stephane Nappo commented on how our world must achieve balance in
the face of technological advancement. My focus will be on the negative effects of
technology on our brains. It has long been a source of heated debate. Technology is
altering the way we think, communicate, and perceive the world. Technology can
have a negative impact on our brains, causing depression and other forms of mental
distress, insufficient sleep, and computer vision syndrome. Prolonged screen time has
been linked to a decrease in overall psychological well-being due to inhibited social
interaction, which can lead to feelings of isolation and disconnect from others.
Interactions are frequently negative and unpleasant. Online content, among other
things, is a source of social comparison, feelings of exclusion, and cyberbullying.
These negative effects exacerbate anxiety and despair. Inadequate sleep Late-night
phone and text use has been linked to depressed emotions, low self-esteem, and
impaired coping in studies. Academic performance has also suffered as a result of
technology and sleep deprivation. Computer vision syndrome, or CVS-, is a phrase
invented by health professionals to describe a range of symptoms caused by spending
all day staring at a screen. CVS was initially only available to those who worked in
front of a computer. It is, however, now accessible to the general public. Headaches,
eye strain, watery eyes, dry eyes, and light sensitivity are all symptoms of CVS.
Children's social skills, relationships, health, and overall ability to focus can all be
harmed by technology. Due to their reliance on technology to pay attention, children
who spend a lot of time using devices may have a shorter attention span and a reduced
ability to focus. I've come to the realization that today's technology harms youth
emotionally, in relationships, in education, in health, and in bullying. Things are not
getting better over time, and technology will continue to harm children. "It has
become shockingly clear that our technology has surpassed our humanity," Albert
Einstein once said.
