DIVISION FESTIVAL OF TALENTS
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING, GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS
OF THE DIFFERENT SCIENCE COMPETITIONS
April 27-28, 2023 Division Level
April 13-14, 2023 District Level

Siyensikula
In charge: Benjie Beduya and Eleanor Catampo
 This competition is open to all Junior and Senior High School students from both
Public and Private Schools in the division. To ensure that no conflict of ownership
will arise on the use of YouTube accounts, ONLY individual entries are allowed for
SIYENSIKULA. Coaching may be done, remotely, such as, but not limited to, online
meetings, email messaging, and all available online collaboration platforms.
 The participant must discuss a difficult topic under Physical Science, Life Sciences,
Mathematics, or an Engineering concept in a clear, creative, and engaging manner
through a video presentation that is not more than three (3) minutes. The participant
can discuss the topic in English and/or Filipino.
 All contents in the video must be original and are owned by the participant, Entries
may include personal experiences and thoughtful observations. Videos must reflect
that the student has carefully reviewed and examined the topic.
 All creative and visual tools such as animations, simulations, physical demonstrations,
or visual aids are allowed. Entries with photos and videos which are derivative works
will automatically be disqualified.
 Entries must be submitted during the competition following this subject format:
“SIYENSIKULA_SCHOOL_VideoTitle”.
 Entries will be evaluated using the Siyensikula Rubric Evaluation Tool

 The Evaluation and Selection Committee will review and score all the video entries
based on the criteria for judging.

Science Quiz Bee: (From Grade 3 to Grade 12)


In charge: Irine Dimakiling , Annabelle Uy, Ma Rona Lim, and Malvin Regulacion
Eligibility:
a. The contest is open to students from elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels.
b. Participants must be the 1st place winners in their respective district-level contests.
c. Contestants should be seated according to their respective districts and grade levels.
d. Contestants should be dressed appropriately in their school uniforms or smart casual attire.
Registration:
a. Contestants must register in advance with their district science coordinator.
b. A valid identification card or school ID is required for registration.
c. Contestants must arrive at least 30 minutes before the contest starts.
Contest Format:
a. The contest shall be conducted in a Quiz Show Format.
b. There shall be four rounds for all categories: Easy, Average, Difficult, and Clincher.
c. There shall be four (4) questions for each category.
d. Each correct answer in every round will be given corresponding points: Easy - 1 point;
Average - 2 points; Difficult - 3 points.
e. All contestants shall answer all questions in the 3 rounds.
Question Preparation:
a. The questions for the district level science quiz will be prepared by the coaches. The
questions should be (3 easy, 3 average, 3 difficult, and 1 clincher) in short bond paper, font
size 16, font style times new roman to be submitted on or before the contest proper to district
science coordinator/ science quiz chairman.
b. The questions for the division level science quiz across all grade levels will be prepared by
the division science supervisor and selected science -teacher experts.
c. Questions will be taken from the first quarter up to the fourth quarter competencies.
d. All questions will be in English language including grade 3
Time Allocation:
a. Each question must be answered within the time allocated.
b. Ten seconds for identification part and thirty seconds for questions that require solving.
c. Quizmaster shall read each question twice, and the time shall start only after the quizmaster
says "GO.”
Materials:
a. Each contestant shall provide their own chalk and “Show Me Board” with a size of 1/8
illustration board.
b. The contestant must write his/her final answer on the Show Me Board.
c. If a contestant wishes to change his/her answer, the former answer should be erased, and
the final answer written.
Answer Requirements:
a. All answers must be spelled correctly.
b. If the answer is a proper noun, capitalization of the first letter of the word is also a basis in
declaring an answer correct.
c. Questions shall indicate the number of significant figures for numerical answers.
d. Use of calculator is not allowed.
Answer Verification:
a. After the time limit has expired, each contestant must show his/her answer by raising the
show-me board before the quizmaster reads the correct answer.
b. The proctors shall read and acknowledge whether the answer of each contestant is correct
or not.
c. If there is a query on the correctness of the answer, the validity of the answer will be
determined by the Board of Judges which is composed of all the specific grade level coaches.
The decision of the board of judges is final. Solutions may be checked by the board of judges
if needed.
Scoring:
a. The total score of a contestant after three rounds shall be his/her score.
b. The contestant with the highest score after the three (3) rounds shall be declared as the first
place winner, the second highest -second place winner, the third highest-the third place
winner, and so on.
c. In case of a tie, the Clincher Round shall be played. It will be a knockout system between
or among the contestants with equal scores until a winner emerges. The first one who can
answer correctly will be declared the winner.
Protests:
a. The duly registered contestant is the only person authorized to file a protest.
b. All protests shall be referred to the board of judges.
c. Any violation of the aforementioned rules shall cause the disqualification of the contestant
concerned.
STRATEGIC INTERVENTION MATERIAL (SIM) COMPETITION (for teachers
only)
In charge: Ma. Luz C. Murillo, Milaner Oyo-a
 This contest is open to all teachers in science. Participants in the division level must
be composed of the following: (1-4) contestant/s for elementary and for secondary
(minimum of 1 and maximum of 4 contestants/district).
 There shall only one category for elementary and secondary. All secondary entries
will not be any more grouped into specialization.
 The allotted time for the presentation of the SIM is 5 minutes and 5 minutes for the
congress.
• Contestants are required to provide: (2 copies of SIM (Hard Copy) for display; (2
copies of Action Research of your SIM (as an attachment)
• Judging shall be based on the following criteria
Criteria for Science Intervention Materials (SIM): The given criteria below were the standard
criteria issued by the Department of Education in 2012. This is based DepEd Memorandum
No. 225, s. 2009, Enclosure No. 2.

• The SIM entry must be a new entry and not an improved version of one’s former SIM
entry.
Scrap Art (3D Collage) Competition for Secondary Students Only (Group Category)
In charge: Mirardo Comayingking, Enrico Tomalon, Leah Lim and Jay-ar Tarrayo
The 3D Collage Competition aims to showcase the creativity, innovation, and technical skills
of secondary students through the use of mixed media. It is hoped that through this
competition, participants will be able to express their ideas and contribute to the development
of the arts and culture in their community.
I. Participants:
The competition is open to all secondary (Junior and Senior) school students. Each district
can send a maximum of three (3) representatives. Participants must submit a registration form
signed by their respective school heads
II. Mechanics:
a. The theme of the competition will be announced on the day of the competition. Participants
will be given three (3) hours to create their 3D Collage artwork based on the given theme.
b. Participants may use any mixed media of their choice such as paper, fabric, wood, plastic,
and other materials that can be glued or attached to their artwork.
c. The size of the artwork must not exceed 3 feet in height, 2 feet in length, and 3 feet in
height. (½ illustration board)
d. The use of sharp objects such as knives and scissors must be done with caution and under
adult supervision.
e. Participants must bring their own materials and tools such as scissors, glue, tape, paint, and
brushes.
f. Only three (3) colors of paint are allowed. White will be considered as color.
g. Participants must wear proper attire and bring their own aprons or apron-like clothing to
avoid getting dirt on their clothes.
h. The artwork must be completed within the given time frame. Late submissions will not be
accepted.
i. Participants must not display their artworks to other participants until the end of the
competition.
j. The artwork must be original and not copied from other sources. Plagiarism will result in
disqualification.
III. Judging Criteria:
a. Creativity and Originality (40%) – The artwork must display a high level of creativity and
originality. Participants must incorporate unique and innovative ideas into their work.
b. Aesthetic Value (30%) – The artwork must be visually appealing and pleasing to the eyes.
Participants must incorporate a good color combination, texture, and balance into their work.
c. Technical Skill (20%) – The artwork must be executed with good technical skills.
Participants must display good craftsmanship and attention to detail.
d. Relevance to the Theme (10%) – The artwork must be relevant to the given theme.
Participants must be able to convey their message effectively through their artwork.
IV. Rules and Regulations:
a. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.
b. Participants must follow the instructions of the organizers and judges at all times.
c. Participants must not damage or cause harm to any property, equipment, or other
participants and of the venue.
d. Participants who violate any of the rules and regulations will be disqualified.
e. Any protests must be filed in writing and submitted to the organizers before the
announcement of the winners.
f. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any participant who fails to comply with the
rules and regulations of the competition.
g. The organizers will not be responsible for any accidents, injuries, or losses that may occur
during the competition.

YES-O SPOTLIGHT COMPETITION (For Elementary and Secondary)


In charge: Elementary- Sheryl Jean Garcia and Maximo Pacho
Secondary- Jacintha Madrid, Cristina Ygrubay and Benedict Benecario
• Only two teams composed of three (3) contestants per district (one Elementary team
and one secondary team) shall participate in the contest.
• The YES-O Spotlight shall touch on the school YES-O’s implementation of
environmental projects mandated in the YES-O’s constitution and by-laws. It shall also
feature the organization’s plan and success stories on environmental action and initiative.
• The spotlight shall consist of pictures appropriately labeled, certificates or the
certifications, approved and implemented project proposals, events, publications, reports,
write-ups, and other materials that comply with number 2.
• The spotlight must be presented using MS PowerPoint Presentation only.
• The presentation must be saved in a CD or USB.
• The organizers shall only provide an LCD projector and computer to be used during
the actual presentation.
• Only those registered YES-O and official members are allowed to participate in this
completion.
• The allotted time for presentation in 8 minutes only. There will be one (1) point
deduction to every minute of excess time. The presenter shall be subjected to questions by the
Board of Judges.
• Judging will be based on the following criteria:
Compliance with YES-O Mandate - 60 %
Design of PowerPoint Presentation - 20 %
Actual Presentation - 20 %

SCI-ART POSTER MAKING COMPETITION (For Elementary only)


In charge: Mirardo Comayingking, Enrico Tomalon, Leah Lim and Jay-ar Tarrayo

• Only (1) contestant per district (Elementary) shall participate in the contest.
• The poster shall revolve around the theme which will be announced by the contest
chairman.
• The allotted time for the contest is two (2) hours, after which all entries shall be
submitted to the contest administrators. Contestants may submit their work ahead of time.
• Contestants are required to provide:
 ¼ size illustration board
 Pencil
 Eraser
 Cotton/s
 sharpener
 Pastel or crayon (no paint)
• Judging shall be based on the following criteria:
Originality - 30 %
Relevance to the Theme - 30 %
Visual Impact - 20 %
Artistry - 20 %
TOTAL: 100 %

TRASHION SHOW COMPETITION (Secondary level only)


In charge: Calbayog City National High School Science Department
Participants:
a. The contest is a group category (5 members- 2 models and 3 designers). Open to all
districts who have a desire to turn trash into fashion, to create fun wearable garments from
discarded materials.
b. Each group per district is responsible for making garments and supplying a model (male
and female) for the show.
The Garment:
a. THE GARMENT: The design must be the group’s own concepts. Make sure that the
garment respects your model’s decency
b. The Garment must be made of 75% reused and recycled materials. Some examples are:
(Food packaging and wrappers, Soda pop tops or cans, Plastic or paper bags, Container lids
of all shapes and sizes, Cardboard, paper, newspaper, or magazines, and Plastic Bottles)
c. Make sure that your garment is safe… NO sharp edges (cut aluminium cans, staples, wire,
etc.)
d. You may use tape, glue, staples, and thread. We won’t count against you if you use them,
but use them in moderation.
Your Model:
a. YOUR MODEL: Should be a pair of male and female, but make sure your garment is
appropriate for his/her sex.
b. They may wear clothes underneath of the designed garment, but this clothing cannot be the
main focus.
