Experiment Title#: Hierarchical Data and Topographical Data Visualizations in Tableau.
Aim/Objective:
The experiment aims to address the following objectives:
1. Understanding hierarchical data structures:
2. Exploring Tableau's capabilities for hierarchical data visualization
3. Visualizing topographical data
4. Applying visualization techniques to hierarchical and topographical data
Pre-Requisites:
• Idea on Hierarchical Data
• Idea on Topographical Data..
Pre-Lab:
1. Why is there a need for hierarchical and topographical kinds of data in real time?
2. Mention the various types of visualizations that can be done in Python for
Hierarchical and Topographical data.

3. Is there a need for the visualization to interact with the users? If yes, how can
they be implemented?
4. What is meant by actions in Tableau?
5. How can actions be implemented and what are the advantages of incorporating
actions into our visuals?

In-Lab:
1. Vishal is appointed as a Food-Inspecting officer and is assigned a task to distinguish the
categories of food visually where in each food item falls into a sub-group and this sub-group
is a part of the main category. Help Vishal accomplish his task using data visualization
concepts in Tableau with appropriate technique and chart.
2. The given data set consists information about wages from various states and substates in
US. Create a geolocational Map on Tableau and incorporate basic actions such that when
clicked on any one of the states its substates should be shown and the tax returns filed. If
none of the states is clicked only the country with 5 divisions only.

Sample VIVA-VOCE Questions (In-Lab):
1. Can you explain the concept of hierarchical data and its relevance in data visualization?
Provide examples of real-world scenarios where hierarchical data structures are commonly
encountered.
2. How does Tableau support the visualization of hierarchical data? Discuss the different
visualization techniques or chart types that can be used in Tableau to represent hierarchical
relationships.
3. What are some challenges or considerations when visualizing hierarchical data in Tableau?
How can these challenges be addressed to create clear and meaningful visualizations?
4. Can you explain the concept of topographical data and its significance in data visualization?
Provide examples of applications where topographical data visualizations are commonly
used.
