RAPID PLANNING
INNER CIRCLE TRAINING | Rapid Planning Method® Session 5

Outcomes for Session #5

Today, we’ll do three things:

1. Continue to practice the mechanics of the RPM™ system in order to make consistent progress mastering
RPM to help you create the life of your dreams!

2. Learn and implement a simple habit of planning — The Weekly Planning Process — so you make consistent
progress on what matters most to you. This is the key to creating and enjoying life on your terms instead of
living in reaction, often based on the demands of others.

3. Continue to put the building blocks of RPM planning together so you experience the accomplishment and
joy of mastering a system that will change the quality of your life forever.

Review: The Triad — 3 Elements to Transform Anything

The most important skill in life is to live in a phenomenal state. The better the emotional state you’re in when you
do your planning, the better your planning will be and the quicker it will get done.

THE TRIAD Power #1: Physiology

The Tipping Point How you engage your body, posture, breathing, tone of
voice, movement, head position, etc.

Power #2: Focus/Beliefs

What you focus on, you feel. What is your current pattern of
focus? What are you giving attention to at the moment?

Power #3: Language/Meaning

The words you use to describe your experience become
your experience. Your habitual language patterns create the
meaning in any situation.

The Triad is the tipping point because it becomes a filter for what emotions
you experience.

In the previous session, you created your Ultimate Triad — you in your best state, being your best self. Re-
capture some of the elements of your Ultimate Triad below as a powerful reinforcement of how to put yourself in
a phenomenal state each day:

PHYSIOLOGY: What do you do with your body? How do you stand? What is your posture like? What facial
expressions do you engage? How do you breathe when you’re in this positive, empowered state?

FOCUS/BELIEFS: What do you focus on in this state? What positive beliefs do you have about yourself, others,
or the situation?

LANGUAGE: What words do you say to yourself or others when you’re in this empowered state? What phrases
do you consistently use? What questions do you ask yourself? What are some words you would use to describe
yourself in this state?

Reminder: The 3 Questions of RPM™

Remember, there are 3 questions you must always ask yourself whenever you are creating an RPM Block.

Ask and answer them in this order:

1. What is the Result that I’m committed to achieve? What do I really want?

2. What is my Purpose? Why do I really want to do this? What will it give me? How will it make me feel?

3. What specific actions do I need to take to achieve this Result? How can I best achieve it now? What is my
Massive Action Plan (MAP)?

Once you ask and answer the 3 Questions of RPM, use the 5 Quick Tips below to complete your RPM Plan.

5 QUICK TIPS TO COMPLETE A GREAT RPM BLOCK

1. PRIORITIZE: Number each action item based on priority in the column labeled “P” (for Priority). Some people do
this based on importance while others prioritize based on the order in which the actions need to be completed. Use
whatever method works for you.

2. ASTERISK THE MUSTS (*): Put an asterisk next to the most important action items – the ones that are the most
critical to achieving your overall Result. (Remember the 80/20 rule: 80% of the value often comes from 20% of the
actions. You may NOT need to do
all your actions to get your Result!)

3. DURATION: Estimate how long you think each action item might take and enter the duration in the column labeled
“D.” Then add up the Total Time to complete the entire RPM block as well as the Total Must Time (the time it would
take you if you only completed the action items that you asterisked as “musts”). This helps you stay “real” about your
time.

4. LEVERAGE: Could anyone else complete any of the action items for you or with your help? Write their initials next to the
action item they can help with in your Massive Action Plan in the column labeled “L.”

5. CIRCLE YOUR RESULT & DRAW A BOX AROUND YOUR RPM BLOCK: This final step will help you visually organize
this RPM block on the page. (Remember: RPM is a visual chunking system.)

The 5 Master Steps of RPM™ Planning

Every RPM plan – whether it’s for a week, a day or a Project – uses the same 5 Master Steps of RPM Planning.
Your RPM Weekly Plans and your RPM Daily Plans are located in your RPM Life Planner and your RPM Project
Plans are available inside your RPM Vision Planner. Here’s an overview of the steps:

Step 1: Capture
This is where you first brain-dump all your ideas, wants, needs, tasks, calls and other
communications down on paper. When you’ve completed your Capture list, you’ll review your list
and start to “chunk” similar items into specific Results that they relate to. When you’re done, you’ll
discover that a long list of items in your Capture list, turns into just a few, meaningful Results.

Step 2: Create - Your RPM™ Plan

This is where you ask the 3 RPM questions:

1. What Result am I after? What do I really want?

2. What’s my Purpose? Why do I want it?

3. What’s my Massive Action Plan? What actions must I take to achieve it?

Your answers will help you create RPM Blocks for your day, week or Project.

Step 3: Commit & Schedule

This is where you declare when you will work on your Results and schedule non-negotiable Block
Time on your calendar.

Step 4: Complete & Achieve

In this step you follow through and execute, and measure your progress toward your Results.

Step 5: Celebrate!
Here’s where you reflect on your day, week or Project, acknowledge your achievements and savor
the magic moments you experienced. You also note what didn’t happen and how you might improve
so these ideas can move over into your next RPM Plan.

EXAMPLE: The 5 Steps of RPM™ Planning (For A Day)

In this example, let’s look at a day in the life of Carlos, an up-and-coming sales executive, husband and volunteer
coach of his local middle school girls’ soccer team, the Unicorns.

Step 1: Capture
The first step in the RPM process is to quickly Capture ideas, wants, tasks, appointments, phone calls and other
communications, etc. In this step Carlos is simply getting all the ideas out of his head and onto paper quickly.
(This is not his actual plan!) The second half of the Capture step is to immediately begin chunking. This requires
grouping together action items that have a natural relationship to each other and relate to the same Result.

INNER CIRCLE TRAINING | Rapid Planning Method® Session 5

Step 2: Create - Your RPM™ Plan

Carlos reviewed his capture list and saw that there was a relationship between finding a work mentor, prepping
for the sales meeting and emailing his direct superior Bob the report after the meeting.

Then, he asked himself the 3 Questions of RPM:

1. What is the most important Result I must achieve in order for this day to be both successful and fulfilling?

2. Why do I want to do this? What is my Purpose? What will it give me? How will it make me feel to produce this
Result?

3. What specific actions must I take that are necessary to achieve this Result? What’s the very first thing I must
do in order to achieve this? What is my Massive Action Plan?

By asking these 3 questions in order, Carlos came up with this RPM Block:

MASSIVE ACTION PLAN RESULT PURPOSE

Once Carlos completed his first RPM Block, he reviewed his Capture list again to see what items were related to
another Result that’s important to him. Then, he asked himself, “What’s another important Result I must achieve
in order for this day to be successful and fulfilling?” He continued this process until he completed all the RPM
Blocks for his day.

reduce the time it will take him to just 6

PRO PLANNING TIP

You’ll notice that Carlos added some new action items and an additional RPM Block to his plan. But think: how
important are these to his overall fulfillment? Have you ever noticed how the most important things in life rarely show
up when you’re running around chasing a “to-do” list? Carlos isn’t stressed because his entire day has now been
‘chunked’ into only four Results!

Step 4: Complete & Achieve

Throughout the day, Carlos checks in with his plan to make sure he’s on track to achieve his Result. He
notices which actions he’s completed and which need to wait for another day – or may not be needed
at all!

Then, at the end of each day, Carlos will go through every action inside his RPM™ Blocks and check
off the items that are done, carry over items that aren’t done to the next day and cross off any that you
decide are not necessary to achieve your outcome. Use the following key to help you annotate each
action in your RPM Plan so nothing gets lost:

EXAMPLE: Carlos’ Weekly Planning Proccess

During his Weekly Planning Process, Carlos first pulls out his RPM Vision Planner and reviews his Driving Force
as well as his Categories of Improvement/Magnificient 7’s. As he does this, he jots down some notes about
Results he wants to make sure end up in his RPM Weekly Plan. He also stops for a moment to really think about
and visualize what he wants in the areas of his life that matter most.

Then, he begins his RPM Weekly Plan the same way he does his RPM Daily Plans – with Step 1 of the 5 Master
Steps of RPM Planning (Capture). He brain-dumps everything around what he wants to achieve and experience
in the coming week. He also brainstorms who he needs to communicate with to help get his Results.

Your Assignment
1. Continue to embrace RPM™ thinking.

Consistently ask and answer the three questions of RPM:

1. What do I really want? What’s my outcome? What’s the specific Result I’m committed to achieve?
2. What is my Purpose? Why is it a “must”? Having accomplished this, how does it make me feel? What
does it mean to me? Who have I become?
3. What specific actions do I need to take (or could I take) in order to achieve this result? What is my
Massive Action Plan?

2. Complete one to two more “Magnificent 7’s” for your Categories of Improvement. Or, go back and make
any of your Magnificent 7s more specific, and more impactful and emotional, with language. Remember how
easy this is to do with your roles.

3. Use and refine your Ultimate Triad:

a. Create a visual of your Ultimate Triad and put it where you’ll see it regularly.
b. Add to and refine your Ultimate Triad as you think of additional distinctions.
c. Three times a day for at least 60 seconds, exercise your Ultimate Triad!

4. Schedule a consistent time in your calendar each week to complete your RPM Weekly Planning Process.

5. Use the RPM Weekly Planning Process to design and live an outstanding week!

Use the blank forms on the remaining pages to help you complete your assignments, and more
importantly, practice using RPM to create the extraordinary life you desire and deserve!

Your Vision for Each Category:

“The Magnificent 7 for Unstoppable Momentum”
Remember, your Magnificent 7 for Unstoppable Momentum is designed to help you maximize both your results
and your fulfillment in each of your Categories of Improvement. This vision is what you’ll keep coming back to
as you create your RPM™ plans to stay associated to what’s most important to you and why it’s a must to follow
through — and it will give you a checklist of what you’re committed to achieve in each category to help you
make progress toward what matters most to you.

Use the forms we give you in each session to continue to build these out, refine, and add to your vision of your
PERSONAL: MAGNIFICENT 7 FOR UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM
extraordinary life!
To maximize the results you achieve in each of your Personal Categories of Improvement, it's
helpful to break each one down into a more clear and specific vision so that you can make
consistent progress. Therefore, for each one of your Personal Categories of Improvement, you'll
identify your:

1. VISION What do I ultimately want

(what you ultimately want this Category of my life to
for this area of your life) look like?

2. PURPOSE Why does that matter?

(why it's an absolute What will it give me? How
“must” for you) will it make me feel?

3. ROLES What is my identity in this

(who you are being in realm of my life? Who
this area of your life) would I ideally like to be?
If I had to pick 3 areas
4. 3-TO-THRIVE that would have the
(top 3 areas to focus on to
have the greatest impact) biggest impact, what
would they be?
5. RESOURCES Who or what do I have
(things that can help you:
books, podcasts, people you
access to that can help
know, personal resources, etc.) me in this area?

6. 1-YEAR &
90-DAY RESULTS What real-life Results am
(your top goals or I committed to achieving?
outcomes in this area)

7. RPM™ ACTION PLANS

What Projects do I
(Projects, Weekly & need to create to
Daily plans) make progress in this
Category? How do they

need to flow down into

my weeks and my days?
each of your Categories of Improvement, you'll be set for the next quarter or year! Each one
will become a powerful resource to help you stay associated to what's important to you as you
create your RPM Project Plans and your RPM Plans for your months, weeks and days.

Step 4: Complete & Achieve

Enter these commitments into your daily and monthly planner pages NOW to ensure you follow through and
dedicate time and emotion to your most important results. Be sure to track your results along the way. You can’t
manage what you don’t measure.

Step 5: Celebrate
Any thought, feeling, emotion, or behavior that is consistently reinforced will become habit. Keep score of your
wins. You can be winning when you think you’re losing if you don’t keep score.

What did I accomplish this week that I’m proud of? What did I enjoy? What progress did I make?
Who did I impact? What were some magic moments?

What didn’t happen this week? What’s not perfect yet? What do I need to carry over to next week?

REMINDER
Come back to revisit this week’s plan when you do your next RPM™ Weekly Planning Process, so you can review your
week, remember your wins, and learn from the past.
