The Impact of Technology on Child Development
Introduction
Technology is defined as a comprehensive process, based on the application of
science and knowledge in many areas of life, in an orderly and thoughtful manner in
order to achieve important and valuable purposes for individuals and communities.
There is no doubt that we are experiencing a tremendous development in technology.
This technology has had a negative or positive impact on our life. As a result, it has
influenced the way we live and we rely heavily on it. Humans continue to evolve
continuously. It is no longer limited to work and in developed societies, but any
person, regardless of his or her cultural or social level, or whatever his age, can use a
cell phone, for example, to take pictures, send and receive them. Technology helps us
to keep in touch with people who are away from us. We use phones and computers to
talk to them and even see them. Technology doesn’t only encourage social interaction;
it can also inspire students to take a more active role in the classroom or in education
in general. Interactive games foster kids’ desire to complete tasks for short and long-
term goals, developing logical reasoning (Dr. Burton Edelson 2020).
The Internet can also introduce children to viewpoints, cultures and world
views they wouldn’t be able to otherwise access and allow them to better empathize
with others (John Puente 2020). In addition to connecting children with other parts of
our world, technology can bring fantasy worlds to live and therefore foster imagination
and learning. When kids can figure out how to answer their own questions, it can
encourage them to research further and follow independent trains of thought. This
process can build independence, academic confidence, and help develop kids’ interest
in new hobbies.
Children nowadays uses technology more than our parents do. Parenting's
busyness in their jobs has reduced the attention they pertain, and they have neglected
their child. So it's the technology they're going to pay for and fill in the attention they
don't give their child. We want to let parents know what is the research about the
impact of technology on child development. Kids have access to screens all around
them. Many homes have multiple television sets, computers, tablets, and phones for
children to find and play with, and some children even have access to their own tablet
and phone, starting at a young age.
Hand a smartphone or tablet to a toddler, chances are they’ll figure out how to
open it and make some in-app purchases, in a matter of seconds. The technological
boom means that children are becoming computer experts at a very young age.
Elementary school kids have classes on computers, and many of them have been
using their computers and tablets at home well before they started school. As kids are
learning from a very young age about technology, they’re making huge strides as they
grow in being prepared for schooling, future careers, innovation, and more. However,
with all this constant immersion in technology, there are some very real concerns
about how this tech impacts childhood development. We are wandering into unknown
territory, as generations past have never had this same kind of constant technological
immersion. But experts are starting to see what technology at this level can do to
children and their future (Marni Baker Stein 2019).
The researchers conducted this study to provide information on how technology
affects positively and negatively. This also include a survey questions, to the parents
to know the impact of technology in their own children, and some suggestions on how
to minimize the negative effects of technology in child development.
Statement of the problem
This study would like to find out The Impact of Technology on Child
Development. Also, it seeks to answer the following question:
1. Is there any consequences and impacts by the child development while using
Technology?
2. What are the changes in behavior of a child due to excessive use of gadgets?
3. What are factors why the parents cannot stop their kids from the technology?
Theoretical Framework
Child development theories focus on explaining how children change and grow
over the course of childhood. Such theories center on various aspects of development
including social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The study of human development is
a rich and varied subject (Kendra Cherry 2020). We all have personal experience with
development, but it is sometimes difficult to understand how and why people grow,
learn, and act as they do. Why do children behave in certain ways? Is their behavior
related to their age, family relationships, or individual temperaments? Developmental
psychologists strive to answer such questions as well as to understand, explain, and
predict behaviors that occur throughout the lifespan. In order to understand human
development, a number of different theories of child development have arisen to
explain various aspects of human growth.
Most common online activities for children and adolescents include playing
games, navigating web sites, and communicating with others, while Internet
technology evolves rapidly, current use is associated with visual input and tactile-
kinesthetic output via manual manipulation of peripheral devices. During Internet
use, language centers of the brain are active, particularly in online communication.
Meta-cognitive abilities are required for a variety of online activities including playing
games and navigating web sites (Roberts 2004). Internet games as well as
synchronous communication increase cognitive processing speed. Internet games
require simultaneous processing online communication requires successive
processing. Internet games make extreme demands on visual and meta cognition
skills. Navigating web sites builds knowledge base and contributes to concept
development.
This figure shows the activities, that can be use in the study of impact of
technology in child development.

Methodology
This study is a quantitative, the researchers selected 20 parent respondents,
the survey cope-up with top 10 questionnaires about the topic. We use google forms to
easily reach respondents anywhere they are. The researchers conducted soft copy
questions, with the respondents who involve and experiencing the harmful of
technology from the child development. From the different people engaging to answer,
with certainly honest with the questions, about from the Strongly Disagree to Strongly
Agree.
Shall discuss the research methods available for the study, and what is applicable for
it to use in response for the statement of the problem. Which is directed towards the
impact of technology on child development, to the parents and adults can help
children get the benefits of technology with less of the negative effects.
Likewise, parents and teachers can watch for quality apps that promote vocabulary,
math, literacy, and science. Parents can start by ensuring children under two don’t
use screens. They can also play along with children to include face-to-face interactions
with technology, and make sure that tech doesn’t interfere for opportunities to play.
Parents should also work to set appropriate boundaries including time limits, and
model good smartphone use. Cybersecurity software and systems can help ensure that
kids stay safe while using technology.

Result and Discussion
1. Most of the respondents has been strongly agreed, that most of the children
spend 5-10 hours a day watching videos online, because parents thought that
watching videos can help the child's thinking an example of it, it's educational videos.
2. A high percentage was obtained from the respondents, who agreed or agree that
they have to watch their children while using technology or gadgets, even though most
of them are working they still check how their children use too much technology.
3. The parents/respondents strongly agreed and agree, that most of the young people
use cellphones or gadgets to play, because they got used to using them and also their
parents allowed them to use it instead to play them outside.
4. In this survey, Neutral got the high percentage of respondents simply, because they
think that technology will not help their children's socialization skills that much.
5. The percentage obtained that they are highly agree that technology can help their
children in learning things, to think and learn more deeply.
6. For speech delay concern, most of them are neutral but there are also some
of them agreed, that technology is the reason for such that problem.
7. Most of them highly agreed, that technology affects the learning of the children
because, they know that technology has a big impact of their children.
8. But they also strongly agreed, that it’s also a tool to prepare their children for the
modern world, because in today's time it is known how to use technology and we face
the modern world with technology.
9. Most of the respondents agreed, that technology can help the children to prolong
their attention span and, to help them boost their patience.
10. And lastly, they also believed that technology is a source of entertainment for the
youth, to help them release the daily stresses of life rather than being used for
mischief.
From the above discussion, it implies that the technology has big impacts and
effects from the development of children, while facing the world with upgrading
technology environment. However, the most commonly gains are the early childhood
adolescent. Technology can negatively affect children’s developing social skills,
relationships, health, and overall ability to focus, some reason of the sample of effects
of technology to the children has consequences with the environment. Its maybe
causes by the society influence. Mostly mother is the one of the reasons, why the kids
are curiosity about the gadgets or technology because of the status of lives.
Conclusion
In overall analysis, most of the parents that are involved their children about
this situation were totally informed about this current issue. As a student, we can
help in so many ways and we can also inform the other people, by reading this study
so that we can make our lives better. Technology has become an essential component
of our society. So much of our daily lives would be distinct, if technological
advancements had not occurred. As technology advances, it strives to meet society's
changing needs, although the presence of technology does not ensure equity and
accessibility in learning, it has the power to lower barriers to both in ways that
previously impossible.
The changes of development of the children, nowadays technology and kids
today is a sight of tenancy. The basic gadgets are television, tablet, cellphone, and
other gadgets that are most commonly, used to entertain and educate children. At one
point, parents have great regards over gadgets as a way to gain their children attention
as a rest, educational tool, and entertain. But later on, the gadgets it becomes an
alarming sight.
Recommendation
This study found the different effects of technology to the child development.
Thus, the following recommendations are hereby presented:
Since the impact of using technology has been proven, parents may assert more
time with their kids, and plan some fun activities that kids will enjoy to
minimize in using too much gadgets and to make stronger bond of the family as
well.
Implementation of seminar about the effects of technology to help them prepare
the children’s development, while using technology and should be encourage
the parents to embraced, the effort to guide and assessed the children.
Look for specialist, to ask some counseling advise, on how to handle children
behavior and help to understand, the negative impact of technology on children
that expose too much on it, and to know more about their development that its
affects.
Spending time to talk with children, this can be also help the children’s reduces
the use of technology and to know the situation and problems that their
children’s encountering.
