Assignment 2

This document outlines 6 problems for an assignment on structural theory and design. The problems involve drawing shear and bending moment diagrams for beams under different loadings and determining maximum shear and bending moment values. Other problems calculate deflections at various points for cantilever beams using methods like differential equations, direct integration, and the moment area method.

1. Draw the shear and bending moment diagrams for the beam and loading
shown.

2. Draw the shear and bending moment diagrams for the beam and loading
shown, and determine the maximum absolute value (a) of the shear. (b) of
the bending moment.

4. Using second order differential equations obtain formulas for the deflections b and c at
points B and C where point C is located at the mid span of the beam, respectively, for the
cantilever beam AB supporting a uniform load of intensity q acting over one-half of the
length.

5. For the cantilever of 6m shown below, which is subjected to non-uniform distributed load
of 10 KN/m, find the deflection using the direct integration method. Where EI is
constant.

6. Using the moment area method, compute the slope and deflection at points B and C.
