What I Need to Know
There you are learner! Welcome to the world of Science 5 Quarter 2,
Module 1. There are different fun activities that we will work together so that
at the end of the module, you will be able to:
❖ Describe the structures and functions of each part of the
male/female reproductive system. (S5LT-IIa-1)
❖ Identify the parts of the male/female reproductive system.
What I Know
Directions: Find out how much you already know about the topics in this
module. Indicate whether the sentence or statement is true or false. Draw a
( ) if the statement is true and ( ) if the statement is false. Write the
answers on your paper.
1. The penis is the male external reproductive organ.
2. The reproductive system is what allows men and women to have
babies.
3. Uterus is the external female reproductive organ.
4. Removing the foreskin that covers the penis is called circumcision
5. In order for pregnancy to occur, a male sperm and female ovum
must unite.
Lesson
Describe the Parts of the
1 Reproductive System and their
Functions
This module contains exercises on describing the parts of human
reproductive system and identifying their functions which have many
applications in our everyday lives. Have you ever wondered how human
reproduce? What particular body parts are responsible for human
reproduction?
Human beings have observable differences in their body structures.
There are also differences in terms of body structures between young and
1
adult persons of the same sex. When you were younger, you may have noticed
that your body looks different from your father or mother. Now that you are
an adult, you start to notice changes in your body.
The human reproductive system has something to do with the
differences and changes observed between male and female.
What’s In
Directions: Arrange the jumbled letters in column A to form the word being
described in column B. Write the answers on a separate sheet of paper.
1. SPINE A. Long muscular tube that travels
2. STITES from the epididymis
3. THRUEAR B. Tube inside the penis
4. AVSFENDERS C. Oval-shaped lie in the scrotum
5. COMTURS D. Cylindrical in shape
E. Pouch or skin and muscle
Good, you are done! Flip your module on page 11 for you to check your
work. Remember that “Honestly is the Best Policy.”
How many correct answers did you get? If you got 4-5, very good! If you
got 2-3, good! Have more practice, If you got 0-1, don’t worry learner, there is
always room for improvement.
Now, I have here another activity for you.
What’s New
Directions: Read and analyze the poem below. Answer the following
questions.
1. What is the main function of the reproductive system?
2. What are the different parts of a female reproductive system?
3. What are the different parts of a male reproductive system?

The Human Reproductive System
By: Michelle M. Ramos
Male and female reproductive system
Have different parts and function assigned them
Although they are different, their goal is the same
To reproduce is the name of the game
Fallopian tube, ovaries, cervix, uterus and vagina
These what makes a mama
Produce egg cells and support a developing baby
Is its main goal, that makes everyone happy
Male reproductive system is made up of several organs
These includes vas deferens, urethra, penis, testes and cowper’s glands
Let us not forget scrotum, epididymis, prostate glands and seminal vesicle
Responsible for producing hormones and sperm cells
What is It
The Male Reproductive System
The male reproductive system is made up of several organs which
include testes, ducts, accessory glands and penis. It is specifically responsible
for producing sperm cells and hormones.
A male can produce numerous sperm cells. An average man can have
approximately 5,000,000 in a drop of his semen. Out of these millions of
sperm cells, only one is needed to fertilize an egg cell.
Parts of the Male Reproductive System and their Functions
Vas deferens Seminal vesicle
Prostate gland
Urethra Cowper’s gland
Penis
Epididymis
Scrotum
Testes
3
Penis is the external male reproductive organ with a tip called glans. It is
covered with foreskin that may be removed through circumcision. The
function of the penis is to provide a means of urination and sexual function.
Scrotum a pair of pouch-like sacs that contains the testes. It also controls
the testes temperature because they must be slightly cooler than the body to
produce sperm cells.
Testes (singular, testis) are sex glands that produce the sperm cells and the
male sex hormone called testosterone.
Epididymis a narrow, coiled tube that stores sperm cells.
Urethra in males is the passage of both urine from the urinary bladder and
semen from the glands.
Prostate gland is a gland located between the bladder and the penis. It
produces fluid that nourishes and protects the sperm.
Vas deferens is a long, muscular tube that serves as the passageway of the
sperm cells released from the testes. It also connects the testes to the seminal
vesicle and the urethra.
Seminal vesicles are sack-like pouches attached to the vas deferens. It
contributes to the semen production.
Cowper’s gland also called bulbourethral gland, is one of the two pea-sized
glands found beneath the prostate gland. It is responsible for releasing fluid
that flushes out foreign matters and neutralizes that acidic urine in the
urethra.
The Female Reproductive System
The female reproductive system is made up of several organs which
include the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus and vagina. It is specifically
responsible for producing egg cells and supporting a developing baby inside a
mother’s womb.
The egg cell is only one-tenth of a million, about 0.0039 inches in
diameter, the size of the diameter of a hair strand.
Parts of the Female Reproductive System and their Functions
Uterus
Fallopian tube Fallopian tube
Ovary Ovary
Cervix
Vagina
4
Vagina is also known as the birth canal. The vagina is a hollow, muscular
tube that extends from the cervix to the vaginal opening called vulva. It
expands to let the baby pass during normal delivery.
Uterus (womb) is a hollow, pear-shaped muscular organ that is the home to
a developing fetus, located at the lower abdomen. The uterus is divided into
two parts: the cervix, which is the lower part that opens into the vagina, and
the main body of the uterus, called the corpus. The corpus can easily expand
to hold a developing baby. A canal through the cervix allows sperm to enter
and menstrual blood to exit.
Ovaries are small, oval-shaped glands that are located on either side of the
uterus. The ovaries produce sex hormones which are estrogen and
progesterone. Female has two ovaries. About 70,000 potential egg cells are
already present in the ovaries of a female when she was born. However, only
about 500 of these eggs will mature. The mature eggs are released one by one
every month once the female reaches puberty and until she is about 43-55
years old. The mature egg cell leaves the ovary through the fallopian tube.
Fallopian tubes lead the egg from the ovary to the uterus. This is also the
usual site of fertilization of the egg cell and sperm cell. Female has two
fallopian tubes, each connecting to an ovary to the side of the uterus.
Cervix is located at the lower part of the uterus. It is a narrow opening
between the uterus and the vagina. During childbirth, it expands to allow the
passage of the baby.
