NewBee FeedBack And Suggestions
Objective
THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THIS ASSIGNMENT WAS TO ASSESS THE
VIEWS AND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE EXISTENCE OF NEWBEE AS
A PORTAL AMONGST THE NEW TO BE SMPC TEAM, AND TO ALSO
TAKE INTO CONSIDERATIONS THEIR THOUGHTS AND IDEAS FOR
THE BETTERMENT OF THE PORTAL WHILE ALSO DISPLAYING OUR
EXCITEMENT TO WORK WITH THEM MAINTAINING SIMILAR
RELATIONSHIPS LIKE PAST YEARS.
Scheduled Ground Works
I had ground work with both the new and the old SMPC team,
though the new team members didn’t show that much interest in the
GW’s, I tried my best and discussed about NewBee with two of the
new SMPC’s. The third SMPC didn’t respond even after several
approaches. I had proper GW’s with the old team members where I
asked about their future plans regarding NewBee and what problems
they faced in the last year and what are the features we can
implement this year.

Outcomes of the Ground
Works
1. All of them were satisfied with NewBee as it did the job well it was intended to.
2. The major problem they faced last year was that freshers asked repetitive questions
which were already answered, so the SMPCs were flooded with similar questions.
3. A lot of info posts also which dilute the intention of info posts.
4. I assured them we will try to implement features after having a common discussion with
my team.
5. Follow the contract signed by both parties.
Features they suggested and I pitched
during the GWs
• 1. Almost all of them (except Shreedhar) asked for an AI chatbot. I mentioned
that it can give misleading answers sometimes. They need it because of the
overwhelming and repeated questions that they have to answer. They are
ready to give data to train the AI though.
• 2. To reduce repetitive questions they asked for some filtering that can be
done and questions and info posts based on the filter will be rendered so that
students don’t ask similar questions. We can use popular tags.

• 3. A search bar where students can search questions before asking.
• 4. Everyone agreed upon the anonymous posting feature.
• 5. One from the new team wants to formalize NewBee as the official
medium to convey information to freshers for the first month. (Various
details that are sent through webmail and that are not sent by webmail) –

• 6. Notification feature. (if repeated question SMPC can tag and notification
will be send, for normal comment and reply and posting info posts
notification can be send)

• 7. A small guide on how to use NewBee and FAQs (from Vedika)
• 8. Most asked or important questions, currently we have sorted based on the
number of likes but we can give pin question options to SMPCs ( can do the
same for info posts).

MY THOUGHTS ON HOW WE CAN IMPLEMENT ALL THESE
1. We can implement a search feature in the post question typing box, so when students
come to type any question they will get to see if an already similar question or infopost on
a similar topic exists or not . If it exists they can navigate to that post or question and get
their doubt solved. This will reduce repetitive questions.
2. We can make a guide video or a guide tour in the website itself for the first time login
through which we can show students how to optimally use the website and dont ask
repetitive questions and tell them about all the features.
3. We should implement the anonymous posting feature as it was agreed by all with some
restrictions obviously

5. Regarding ChatBot it’s up to the team if we agree for the ChatBot we can implement this
also as they will provide us the data.
6. We can implement the pin infopost and important questions feature also.
7. We can make a separate search bar also.
8. We should accept the proposal of formalizing NewBee as the official medium of
communication for the first month(variable) if they agree too.

Basic layout and architecture about the
tech stacks
• 1. Most of the features are easy to implement like Notification , anonymous posting,
pinning infoposts and filtering or tagging. ( can be done using Express and vue which
are the current techstacks of NewBee)
• 2. The search functionality is already implemented, we already have elastic search
implemented in the backend, maybe need to modify a little and implement in the
frontend.
• 3. Regarding the ChatBot part, a pre-trained LLM model like GPT-3 can be used and
we can train on the dataset . Also we can use some tools like Dialogflow, Rasa,
Botpress, ChatterBot. Botpress will mostly do our job as it provides 2,000 incoming
messages and events per month for free which is enough for us. We can also make
it on our own. ( obviously multiple testing should be done even if a 3rd party model
is used)
