Computational Mathematics

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. The objective of this course is to teach students basics of Trigonometry, Sets theory, Statistics,
Solutions of equations.
2. Use sets for solving applied problems, and use the properties of set operations algebraically.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:


CO1: Implement Trigonometric solutions for measurements in real world scenarios.
CO2: Implement Matrices and simultaneous equations to solve complex problems.
CO3: Use statistical tools efficiently.
CO4: Use mathematical logic and predicate calculus for solving problems.
CO5: Apply the concept of set theory for finding solutions of set related problems.

UNIT-I Duration: 8hrs


Trigonometry: Angles and their Measurement, Values of Trigonometric Ratios, Trigonometric
identities, Height and Distance.

UNIT-II Duration: 10hrs


Equations: Simultaneous linear equations, Methods of Solving Simultaneous equations, Quadratic
equations. Elementary Matrices and type of matrices.

UNIT-III Duration: 10hrs


Statistics: Frequency Distribution, Measure of Central Tendency: Mean, Mode, Median. Measures of
variation: Mean deviation, Standard Deviation.

UNIT-IV Duration: 10hrs


Mathematical Logic:Statements and notations, Connectives: Negation, Conjunction, And Disjunction.
Statement formulas and truth tables. Tautologies, Tautological implications, contradiction contingency.

Set Theory: Basic concepts of set theory, notation, inclusion and equality of sets, the power set, types
of sets, operations on set, Venn Diagrams.
