Gy Interface
1 Gy Interface
The Gy interface is used for credit control, or online charging, and connects the
PGW-C to the Online Charging System (OCS). The PGW-C can communicate with
multiple OCSs, directly or via diameter agents, over the same or different logical
Gy interfaces.
For information on Gy credit control, refer to Gy Credit Control for the PGW-C.

2 Protocol Overview
Information is exchanged over the Gy interface through messages as specified by
the IETF Diameter Base Protocol (DBP), the IETF Credit Control Application
(DCCA), and the applied service specification of the 3GPP PS Charging
application. The DBP provides an Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting
(AAA) framework for end user control applications. For more information on the
DBP, refer to Diameter in the PGW-C and the SGW-C. The DCCA provides a
Diameter-based real-time credit control application for the control of end user
services. For more information on the DCCA, refer to IETF RFC 4006 and SoC
with IETF RFC 4006. The service specification applied on top of the DCCA
determines the characteristics of the credit control application. For more
information on the supported service specifications, see Service Specifications on
page 2.

2.1 Service Specifications
The PGW-C supports the following service specifications:
— 3GPP PS Charging (3GPP Gy)
— Ericsson PGW Gy (Ericsson Gy)
— Provider-specific service specifications
The Ericsson Gy service specification extends the 3GPP Gy service specification
according to the table below.

Gy Interface for the PGW-C
3 Gy Messages
This section describes Gy specific Diameter messages exchanged between the
PGW-C and the OCS. All DBP messages are described in Diameter in the PGW-C
and the SGW-C.
The following messages are described:
— Credit-Control-Request (CCR)
— Credit-Control-Answer (CCA)
— Re-Auth-Request (RAR)
— Re-Auth-Answer (RAA)
— Abort-Session-Request (ASR)
— Abort-Session-Answer (ASA)
For each message, the corresponding AVPs are listed. For in-depth information
on each AVP, see references listed in the tables.
To indicate AVP presence in the messages, the notation from IETF RFC 2234 is
used in the AVP name field:
— {AVP Name} indicates a mandatory attribute. Default is one instance.
— [AVP Name] indicates an optional attribute. Default is zero or one instance.
— *AVP Name indicates zero or more instances.
The specification column included in the tables indicates in which service
specifications the corresponding AVPs are applicable. Unless otherwise specified,
a given AVP is applicable for all releases of the listed service specifications.
3.1 Credit-Control-Request
The CCR message is sent from the PGW-C to the OCS to indicate initiation,
update, and termination of a Gy session. It contains zero or more MSCC.
The CCR message begins with a Diameter header where the command-code field
is set to 272 and the R and P bits are set in the Command Flags field. The
Mandatory (M) flag is set for all AVPs. The Vendor-specific (V) flag is only set for
AVPs declared as vendor specific. The Encryption (P) flag is not set for any AVP.
AVP instances requesting quota or reporting quota usage for rating groups. The
message is also used for Gy session event reporting.
