Hull Basic Design Workshop

This document discusses Cadmatic tools that can be used to assist with hull basic design. It describes how the Hiltop application can be used to create a flexible hull model where changes to dimensions or items will automatically update the entire model. It also discusses using 2D lines and profiles to allow for fast preliminary design when facing tight deadlines, and how the system can automatically place stiffeners and adjust them if bulkhead sizes change. Finally, it mentions the ability to estimate preliminary weight and center of gravity based on reference frames, and to place preliminary outfitting elements from libraries to allow multiple disciplines to access and make adjustments to the same hull model.

Intelligent General Arrangement Tool for Holistic Basic Design

• Showing you possibilities of how Cadmatic tools can boost the design process, by…

• … creating main construction while applying a high level of topology.

• … layout definition using 2D lines and Profile as property.

• … preliminary Weight Estimation.

• …placing preliminary outfitting elements

Creating main construction while applying a high level of topology

• Use of the Hiltop application to create an agile and flexible design.

• Changes to the main dimensions or any item in the model at any time
triggers the system to update the whole model accordingly.

• The parameters can be defined as fixed values, such as the main dimensions,
or mathematical formulas.

• Use of the grid manager to set up multiple grids.

Layout definition : using 2D lines and Profile as property.

• Designing in 2D is the fastest option when faced

with tight deadlines – let the system create the 3D
model!
• Newly created plates allow the plates to be updated
when the boundaries or the main dimensions are
modified.
• Automatically place stiffeners on each grid position
on the selected bulkheads.
• Automatically add or remove stiffeners if the
bulkhead size is changed.
Preliminary Weight Estimation
• Estimate the weight and center of
gravity (COG) of the ship based on
“reference” frames.
• Several reference frames can be
utilized concurrently for weight
estimation for a more accurate
estimation.
Placing preliminary outfitting elements

• Allows the model to be equipped

with components from libraries
• Outfitting and piping disciplines
can access the same model,
allowing adjustments or changes
according to machinery
requirements.
• The equipment is connected to the
view plane thus is linked to hull
structure
