USER TYPES
The SAP system categorizes users into several types for different purposes. These are the different types of
users available in SAP:
Dialog
System
Communication
Reference and
Service
Dialog User
Individual system access (personalized)
Logon with SAPGUI is possible.
The user is therefore interaction-capable with the SAPGUI.
Expired or initial passwords are checked.
Users have the option of changing their own passwords.
Multiple logon is checked.
Usage: For individual human users (also Internet users)
System User
System-dependent and system-internal operations.
Logon with SAPGUI is not possible. The user is therefore not interaction capable with the SAPGUI.
The passwords are not subject to to the password change requirement, they cannot be initial or expired.
Only an administrator user can change the password.
Multiple logon is permitted.
Usage: Internal RFC, Background jobs Processing, External RFC
USER TYPES
Communication User
GUI login is not possible.
Users are allowed to change password through some software in middle tier Individual system access
(personalized).
Usage: External RFC
Service User
GUI login is possible.
Initial password and expiration of password are not checked.
Multiple logins are allowed.
Users are not allowed to change the password.
Only admin can change the password.
Usage: Anonymous system access (for example, public Web services)
Reference User
GUI login is not possible.
Initial password and expiration of password are not checked.
The assignment of reference users to users can be checked in the table USREFUS.
Reference user is assigned to a dialog user from SU01 -> Roles Tab
For 1 Dialog User, Only 1 Reference User Can be assigned.
Usage: Primarily Assigned to Dialog User for Authorization Enhancement
